@Barotix
I was the same weird kid. Stopped watching cartoons at the age of nine. Always liked military documentaries, and historical ones. Discovery Channel is where I learned my English, and where I got most of my knowledge from.

Re: Do you guys believe in god?
On my daily read, I found this to be very interesting (can at least show a little insight to the arguments of religion installing "fear" in its followers):
Whole article can be found here: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/09/080909122749.htm
"Instead of studying religion by trying to measure unidentifiable beliefs in the supernatural, we looked at identifiable and observable behavior - the behavior of people communicating acceptance of supernatural claims," said Craig T. Palmer, associate professor of anthropology in the MU College of Arts and Science. "We noticed that communicating acceptance of a supernatural claim tends to promote cooperative social relationships. This communication demonstrates a willingness to accept, without skepticism, the influence of the speaker in a way similar to a child's acceptance of the influence of a parent."
"Almost every religion in the world, including all tribal religions, use family kinship terms such as father, mother, brother, sister and child for fellow members," Steadman said. "They do this to encourage the kind of behavior found normally in families - where the most intense social relationships occur. Once people realize that observing the behavior of people communicating acceptance of supernatural claims is how we actually identify religious behavior and religion, we can then propose explanations and hypotheses to account for why people have engaged in religious behavior in all known cultures."

We should stop treating people like objects, or at least treat our objects with more respect.

Re: Do you guys believe in god?
Einstein was often misunderstood. He said this himself and complained when others tried to put words into his mouth. A Catholic science student, concerned for Einstein's soul, once wrote to Einstein, begging him to pray to Christ, the Virgin Mary, and to see a Catholic priest immediately. What follows is part of Einstein's reply.
"If I would follow your advice and Jesus could perceive it, he, as a Jewish teacher, surely would not approve of such behavior."
If the human mind (albeit a great mind) is so often misunderstood -- how great the difficulty, how absurd the thought, "I will sieze for myself the mind of God." How many men have declared "Thus saith the LORD..." when they themselves have not first sought God. There is no wonder in me that the world is dismayed by those who claim authority they do not possess.
Is God a Myth?
There is a difference between the belief in god(s) and faith in Him known as the One True God. From time immemorial mankind has observed the sky with wonder. Anything that moved across the 'heavens' became a god. Dawn light of a sunrise showed that light (goodness) came from darkness and granted the triumph of life. These philosophers contemplated the origins of weather, seasons and the effect such things. They wondered how plants emerged from seeds. The central concept of these origin myths was that of human birth. This lead to anthropomorphization of various primeval parents (male and female) into gods.
Greek myths include the Earth Mother, Gaia, who is impregnated by the Sky Father, Uranos. The genders of earth and sky are reversed in an Egyptian creation myth, which depicts the cow-goddess Nut with long hair and hanging breasts, over the earth-god Geb, as his sky protectress. In the Hindu, the Lotus grows from the navel of Vishnu (symbolic umbilical cord included) showing the female powers of reproduction and is transmuted into an image of creation springing from the male.
Athena springing fully grown from the head of Zeus gives an image of how birthing is supposed to transport us away from the lower regions of the body. We are to become thinking individuals. As the mother gives birth from the womb, so the father god gives birth from the mind. Much of our culture is influenced by such concepts. One person posted here, "all religion is irrational and illogical".
Hmmmmm.... Those who advance the concepts of Roman myths would be so proud.
Another myth tells of the male self who split in two (the other part female). Terms like "the better half" and "soul mate" stem from these concepts. Procreative desire is deified and from these self imagined gods -- the creation of animals and even land itself proceeds.
Many high school students have been taught to parrot arguments lumping all gods into a single pot and stir ambiguously. This teaching fails to acknowledge that the God of Abraham stands alone. He alone is described as "The Altogether Other", completely different from man. Ancient Summeria had a pantheon of gods, all of whom were anthropomorphic. The city of Ur, for example, constructed a ziggurat for Nanna, the god of the moon. The God of Abraham and Moses called himself the Living God -- in contrast to lifeless gods. To the Hebrew mind names signified attributes and the name of their God was referred to as The Incommunicable Name. From this one we are told there is no gender in heaven. He stands alone.
Many Mythconceptions
I've looked closely to the bible to study "beginnings". There is no incongruity between what is said and science. The bible doesn't attempt to state "how".
There are many misunderstandings:
We are told that we shall know that He is God because He alone declared the end from the beginning. I do not know the mind of God, no man does. If those who state they follow Jesus would strive harder to listen (and hear) their God than they do speaking to others about their misconceptions all mankind would benefit. It was the prayer of Jesus that we might become One with the Father even as He was One with the Father.

There are many misunderstandings:
- God promised redemption through the seed of the woman. Mankind blamed Him for patriarchal concepts and thousands of years of abuse. Jesus later stated that God allowed divorce because of the hardness of hearts, but this was not what He wanted. "The two become ONE".
- God wanted governmental authority to be limited to Judges -- His followers demanded Kings.
- God said that the land itself spewed out the occupants of the promised land and warned that His called out ones should not become like them. He was called a ruthless God (by those who do not understand Him).
We are told that we shall know that He is God because He alone declared the end from the beginning. I do not know the mind of God, no man does. If those who state they follow Jesus would strive harder to listen (and hear) their God than they do speaking to others about their misconceptions all mankind would benefit. Re: Do you guys believe in god?
Religion was created to make a incentive for people to do good in the world and not just to what will give them a better life. Imagine a world where people didnt try not to do sins.
thats what i believe anyway

I don't know why you folks are disrespectful God, your creator. Without him, you all wouln't exist. God loves us all. Worship him and he will bless you for eternity. If you don't, you will be punished by tons of misfortune and by damnation.

It's easy.
The two most important, complementary attributes of God are:
God is good. (therefore loving)
God is just.

what's confusing? there's no such thing as unconditional love
point is that you need god. it's better to believe in god than taking the chance.

Understanding that God is good and just doesn't just happen.
Are you serious about that punishment thing, friend? God takes no pleasure when He allows us to face the consequence of our sin. How could He be called good otherwise? As a father I used to speak to my kids about punishments. Asked them, if you disobey what should I do? Should I reward you and teach you to be disobedient children? Maybe I could buy you an ice cream cone?IceCreamMan wrote:I don't know why you folks are disrespectful God, your creator. Without him, you all wouln't exist. God loves us all. Judgment comes first to the House of God (us). When we understand what He is doing we become friends, not just blind slaves.
Friend Barotix, you ask if God is insensant? Can you give to me something that you do not possess? If you were married and had red-headed children would you not suspect the mailman?Barotix wrote:If there were no sentient beings would there still be a god?

Well, okay maybe the point of your post is that we are not like our Father. Let me borrow an argument from evolution - give Him time... His promise will be realized.
"As I live saith the LORD, My glory shall fill all heaven and earth."

Re: Do you guys believe in god?
Bingo, granps! I may not believe, but imo a deity doesn't really have to be like it's creations or vice versa. Think of a child, with silly putty.
