It depends on the kid, so anyone's theories about whether being strict or not really doesn't matter. If you have a kid that wont shut up and keeps backtalking, you should smack him around a little. If he listens to what you say and does what you ask, then reward him or hold off on smacking him around.

I got smacked around when I was younger, until I learned what was right, and what wasn't right. After learning the difference between good and bad, I never for punished. Just had the guilt inducing disappointed speech. Which of course, if you love your parents, is a million times worse then any beating.

Thats how it worked with me. I got my butt kicked once when I was a kid, and since then I've hardly ever been punished for doing anything wrong, since I hardly ever did do anything wrong. I respect my parents and they know it, but I'm almost 19 now so it doesn't really matter what happens here as long as I'm still paying rent lol.

first of all, you cant get addicted to video games.

second, i see your point, but all the things he listed were directly related to the main issue. If you were overweight, it wasnt because you played video games too much, it was because you ate too much crap, didnt exercise, etc. if you dropped out of school it is because you didnt go. if you lost your job, same thing, you didnt go. those are multiple issues.

Yes, I do. And I find it ridiculous that some kids these days have nannies and housemaids and things to do everything for them. They just sit back and watch TV all day long. My parents actually own a store, and I have to work for them the entire summer, as well as every Saturday during the school year, on top of my homework - which I get alot of, considering that I live in Plano, and the PISD is one of the top school districts in the nation. 4-5 hours of homework a night, on average - no exaggeration. Then there are house chores as well.

It just seems today like people don't discipline their children anymore...


when i was a kid i couldnt play video games longer than maybe 30 mins to an hour every WEEKEND... and nowadays kids can play for hours even on the week days... it just doesnt seem fair.

My parents used to be like that as well. No computer OR TV expect on the weekends, and not more than about 30 minutes. But now that I'm older, they get less and less strict - trust me and have the respect for me to make my own decisions. Besides, I don't WANT to sit in front of the TV and computer all day. I have things to do with my life.

Your childhood seems like my childhood, and that's how a childhood should be. Kids who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, and are pampered by their parents will eventually turn out to be for the worse when they get older, and mommy and daddy isn't there to breastfeed them anymore.

myself... i have a lot of problems... right now i am addicted to heroin, i dont shoot it up, i smoke it, but yea its really not good, i have been doing it every day for about 2.5 months now, and i'm to the point where it would be impossible for me to stop without some perscriptions, i really dont recommend doing this drug... anyone thinking about it should think again. please take my words into consideration... you dont want to be addicted to this shit...

it takes over, you need it, and it makes you spend crazy amounts of money... my habit costs me about 140 dollars a week.

i wanted to post this not to brag, because this is not something to brag about, but in stead to try to help anyone that might be thinking about trying this drug... or any really addictive drug for that matter. It isnt worth it...

It's making a joke about how politicians tread lightly around issues like abortion and never take a firm stance. It's basically declaring a firm stance in which nobody wins. He was like abused or something by his parents, if your parents treat you with no love & stuff, then you will end up pretty bad.

Being an alchoholic occurs because your body is unable to process alchohol properly, and problems occur.

When i was 8ish and under i got spanked a lot. I was a bratty little kid. But luckily most of it got spanked out of me. My Dad and Mom now say they regret punishing me so much when i was little. I tell them I'm glad they did, because it made me a better person. Now I'm bigger than both my parents, so if they tried to beat me they couldn't. We get along though. My parents listen to logic, and are very reasonable. We don't fight much.

but i still have a fear of long wooden spoons....

I clean up the yard, give our dogs food water and exersice, do the dishes whenever they're dirty, clean my room, and do the laundry, not because they tell me to, but because if i dont do them they won't get done. my dad threatened me many times though (in a diif language). i can tell it helped me though, it gave me some limits.

i can tell my parents are doing less of wat they did with me than with my younger siblings. they dont really try as hard to discpline them as they did with me (eg. if my 7 year old sis says a 'bad' word or something like that there like eh wtvr most of the time. with me complete opposite lol, i wouldve gotten my a$$ wooped)
