EDM is is the general name for all of the genres that are electronic and you can dance to. Haven't seen the term being used the way you talk about. I know Monstercat labels some of their uploads as EDM, but that's just because they can't classify it as anything they already have in their genres list.

I'll admit it's kind of a shame that EDM covers the pop electro house we hear on the radio today, but it is all technically EDM still. I haven't heard of anyone using it to describe on genre only
