Intention matters but doesn't carry as much weight as how a message is perceived...And assuming it should be perceived as how you intend it is presumptuous and shortsighted (especially with racial jokes)....No one is a mind reader and we tend to view things differently at times based on numerous factors....The humorous/sarcastic/unintentional puns might even be perceived as such and still not be appreciated....

Like I said: everyone perceives things differently. What's funny to me might not be funny to someone else, but if my intentions were to be funny then I'm doing no wrong. I'm not going to filter myself because someone somewhere in the world might get offended. No one wants to live that care bear politically correct life and no one should be expected to.

I don't think everyone will so chill....but the chances of someone taking offense is great..... The web becomes a protection haven for a bunch of cowards and idiots to shine...Protection from the tangible disdain and resentment that comes from the real world...Assuming he's not an actual full blown racist here in pretense...His racist joke sorta made me reflect on that and is the main reasoning behind my argument....

Also there's a giant difference between being a racist and playing to a stereotype. It's a stereotype that asians love rice, although every asian friend of mine has a pot of white rice ready to go at all times, and so it's harmless to poke fun at. If I were to say I hate those chinky eyed gooks, then yes, that could be considered racist.

There is a huge difference between carrying on as normal while someone take offense and coincidentally making a racial/stereotypical comment right in front of the very people the comment is directed at... The latter is pushing it a bit far in terms of social manners so stop reaching for straws...No one is saying you should be or anyone should be politically correct all the time...but there is a time and place for things... But I bite my tongue here because in this case the internet is always the right time and place for some to let loose moments of idiocy...

Again you assume that if it is just a stereotypical comment it should be perceived as such and no harm done in the name of fun....So again I urge you to exercise it...Have some of your asian friends invite you to one of their ceremonial gatherings/feast and once you're there walk around the place and start saying to the other party members you don't know "Hey, I am here to be yellow and eat rice like the rest of you"....Let me know how that turn out please....
