It is like saying all rock is about emo bitching/drugs/bitches. You are using a very general subjects to criticize basically everyone making that kind of music. Listen to Mos Def, not 2chains. But I mean its obvious you just dont like rap/wordplay so why bother.

Also eminem keeps talking about having a big dick, Im sure .curve has no problem with that though :P

Not even 20% of rock is about emo bitching, while most of the "famous" rappers rapped about bitches, drugs and them being gangstas at least once in their career. Just sayin'.

It is easy to defend what you are familiar with and accuse with bullshit generalizations those that you aren't familiar with. Thats the idea I was putting forward, not that all rock is emo bitching ~,~' (though lets be honest here...)

You also have to understand the context in rap, where they generally come from poorer backgrounds where money is scarce and drug dealing is common. If you cant relate to that/dont understand the slangs, just dont listen to it, find a more conscious-type rapper (Common, Mos Def), or just listen to the beats (Kanye), or just ignore it :?. No need to make up bs to suit your view.

Yeah, let's be honest.

Rock is very general term. There are a lot of genres of rock, and that emo bitching is just one of them. No one likes that emo shit, except for those emo bitches. Saying that whole rock is emo bitching is really, and I mean really ignorant.

And yeah, I understood what you meant by your first post.

No, most rap that is in the mainstream is about that. If you look deeper than the surface you can find a lot.

And what kind of music contain those? they are very general tropes in life and in all kinds of music. Except violence in country music is called "patriotism" and sex in rock music is called "love" songs.

In other news, Kanye just named his kid North West, lmao.

I'm not gonna bother doing your homework for you brah.
Seriously if you only care about them mentioning general tropes and bad words, instead of listening to the actual message, you should just stop listening to any kind of music. :palm:
Heres a song explicitly talking about violence, drugs, and money. And no its not shit.

I couldn't care less.. lulz Oh dear... such a laughably "bad song" ^
Anyway, most of the rap today follows the same format, talking about the same things ...
Just general Crap really!. Btw: What is real rap anyway?

I could go on for years with music that lacks violence, drugs, or bitches blackfox.

Also what people over look is a lot of the talk about money violence and drugs are often about the effects they have on the hood in a bad way.

how can kendrick lamar be famous... im not a huge fan of rap but i do like rap and this guy just sounds like the beiber of rap with his squeaky voice, singing as if he has his hands over his nose.

most popular rap and rnb is about bitchez gunz moneyz and hoez
prime example being 2chains, drake and lil wayne.
also, they ruin it even more by excessive use of auto-tune.

but there is some good rap still around, like the golden days of tupac, biggie and nate dogg.

i just dont understand how they can get away with saying N****r and everywhere else that word is considered extremely racist and you are likely to lose your job at least if you are caught using it (and famous).

I think rock and metal music as a collective involves a lot more talent in song writing, playing and performing. Most metal bands would never ever think about miming their sets on stage or having mediocre instrumentalists strum along like their instruments were plugged in whilst a backing-track gets played.

composing a rap song's backing track is much easier when you are using loops and digital correction tools to manipulate sounds and pitch whilst also getting spot on rhythm.

lyric wise, rock and metal can have good lyrics, a lot more metaphors, similes and imagery is used in metal music where-as rap is very literal

I've listened to a good deal of rap (less these past few years) and the same goes for every other genre of music and there are trash artists at both ends of the spectrum, but even the guys here that love rap can't argue that a lot (and I mean A LOT) of the shit on radio and the big names in rap now-a-days produce trash music with garbage lyrics.

Which is more the point I was trying to make. Rap went from deep, soulful lyrics and meanings to the current mainstream rap we have now.

Immortal Technique's "Dance With the Devil" is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard.

Exactly and the door does swing both ways, nickelback is on the radio but because I look for good music and don't take whats on the radio as what the entire genre is like.

@Penfold - so kendricks squeeky voice negates his lyrical ability?
They can say ***** because they are black. Leave it at that.

Song writing no, I dont think it requires more skill playing, obviously because most rappers dont play drums while rapping, performing that's up to the fans.

Rap is not always literal.

@Ol3n and Aventus; Exactly, its like basically what i have been trying to say the whole thread -_-

People act like this line from Waka Flocka
I gotta a whole lotta money, bitches count it for me
Bottle keep poppin', that's why the bad hoes jockin'
It's a party, it's a party, it's a party
It's a party, it's a party, it's a party

Is the same thing as this hook by Kendrick Lamar
It go Halle Berry or hallelujah
Pick your poison tell me what you doing
Everybody gon' respect the shooter
But the one in front of the gun lives forever
And I been hustling all day, this a way, that a way
Through canals and alleyways, just to say
Money trees is the perfect place for shade and that's just how I feel

Cause they both mention facking sex and money. One is a retarded pop party song, the other is talking about a how poor person feels when someone says "Money isn't everything, theres love and religion". Hes saying whether you pick love/sex (Halle Berry) or religion (hallelujah), as a kid that lives in an area where money is scarce, money always seems as an pancea. (Money tree is the perfect place for shade). In the verses hes talking about wanting to rob someone that was born rich (silver spoon) and hitting up their richass house (pot of gold) out of jealousy.

But then you have people saying he's like Justin Beiber (wat) and saying all new tracks suck cuz you know, classics. The classics are classics for a reason, there were a shitlaod of shitty records back then too, they just aren't remembered cause they were shit. Its like calling rock shit cause you heard Nickelback on the radio but never listened to Foo Fighters.

Heres some nice tracks (about different subjects) if anyones interested
Spaceship, All Falls Down, Jesus Walks, Lost in the World, Family Business, Hey Mama, Roses, Heard em Say, Diamonds from Sierra Leone (remix), So Appalled,; All Kanye
Art of Peer Pressure, Money trees, Good Kid (Kendrick lamar)
New Day, Murder to Excellence, No Church in the Wild (Jayz/Kanye)
Some other rappers I can't think of tracks for atm; Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco

his "lyrical ability" should be contested...
6 people wrote "Bitch dont kill my vibe" and i think if he was truely that talented, he wouldnt need 6 people to write the song.

the talent in song writing doesnt come from just from lyrics...
an average rap song will have:
- looped drums
- reasonably simple bass line
- synth and effects
- Rapper.

whereas a metal band (and even more notably progressive metal bands) have:
- multiple rhythms (a lot of poly-rhythm is used in metal)
- Hooks / riffs
- solo (usually)
- bass playing
- guitar playing (usually complex compared to bass)
- repeating drum patters with unique fills
- Effects (like bass drops or synths or guitar pedals)
- Lyricist

and 95% of the time the band writes all of its stuff with no intervention.

i know some rap isnt literal but a lot of it is.

You do know bands have producers and writers too right?
Here I'll quote it again for you
TheDrop wrote:and 99% of statistics are total bullshit. :?

And the creativity in raps is based on wordplay, double entendres, metaphors etc, not facking guitar riffs ~,~''. Production is a whole different thing, Rappers =/= producers. Unless its like Kanye (who raps and produces own beats). Bitching about loops on hip hop production is like bitching about looping lyrics in rock and metal songs :palm:

The obvious difference is that bands actually...play instruments. Weird concept having to master an instrument(s) and do well enough to play in sync and melodic enough to actually sound good. As opposed to standing in front of a mic and rapping.
