In California, yes. They have stores where you go in with a medical marijuana license and they will sell you weed. Simple.

Yeah there are a couple states in the US that allow both medical cards and marijuana dispensaries. Essentially what [Orphen] said. I can walk into this shop with my medical marijuana recommendation card and pick out which kind of strain I'd like and legally buy it.

There is medical marijuana but MMAR is not on the same scale as the California and Colorado medical systems. If you get a medical card you have to have full medical proof of your condition and you can't get it for insomnia or chronic pain. There is no dispensary system in Canada that I am aware of. Medical patients either grow their own or have someone that grows for them so they have a constant supply. Apparently the growers get audited regularly to make sure they aren't selling their medical stuff.

People in general are pretty open to people smoking weed. Every time I'm downtown I smell it at least once. People aren't shy to come up to you on the street and ask if you have weed you can sell or if you have any papers. I haven't had an issue finding good quality weed. It helps that I have a lot of friends that smoke so I meet all of their dealers at some point.

I hear BC is the mecca of Canadian cannabis but I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy any BC bud or experience any of their counter-culture.

Dispensaries are one of the main reasons that makes me want to move to either America, Canada, or Netherlands.

Either way, I like both, when hanging with friends and chilling I'd rather smoke, when going out/to a party I'd rather drink.

I love the fact that when I'm high my mind opens up a lot, and I can still behave decently and without looking stupid. For example, I once went to class high and we were reading a poem and I was the only one able to decode the message behind it, the teacher loved me.

Also, I only smoke with people I know and like.

It's not legal. It's still illegal on a federal level, and you aren't paying for a license, you're paying for a prescription from a certified doctor to be seen as a patient who needs medical marijuana.
