Yeah I'd be pretty sad if my mind just disappeared when I died.

Just remember this, if you think about it, you'll live every day thinking that you'll die some day, and your life will be negatively affected by it, so just don't think about it, live your life as well as you can, for as long as you can.

i'm pretty much the same way.

don't think about death there is no point. when the time comes just be happy you lived the way you wanted.

I'm sorry but I completely disagree, I'd rather think I'm happy it's over than reminisce all the good things and feel bad about dying.

Depends whether you get buried or cremated.

Buried: eventually you'll just turn into

just take care of what you wanted while you're alive
(and decide what will happen to your body post mortem)
after that it's either some bogus place you hang around with angels/demons
or the moment you die, you pop up in a new existence, having forgotten about the rest.

I think that's the most unsettling thought for some people. "What if I was alive before, why don't I have memories of it? What if it will happen, will I remember this lifetime?" Those questions used to plague me, but I've learned to live with the mystery.

I'm not afraid of death. It's not like I will notice being dead (me thinks)
The thing that scares the shit out of me though is how I will die. Will it be like *snap*, out of nowhere or will I be sick for months or years and just know that I'm dead in a few months.

Dying is scarier than death.

my thought is, I know once I get to 70 years old, it's gonna feel like time went so quick. And yes, knowing I'm not going to exist gets to me, prob. cuz of instincts, but it's a killer one I tell ya. I'm only 18 so I'll prbly have a awhile to live. But then I think about loosing everyone I love and leaving everything behind. It can really get to you. Though once I'm prbly of an older age I will see things differently hopefully!

Pretty good analogy. Me, I'm not Atheist, but I also have no religion that I follow. I feel like the ones out there aren't the right ones. Used to be a standard run-of-the-mill christian that went to church every Sunday. Then I grew up and got a mind of my own. Atheist for a while, but there's just too many things in this universe for me to really believe that it's all random lucky science.

Well think of it this way, you got a 50/50 chance of something happening and something not happening. But theres no point thinking about it just enjoy life because the astronomical odds that you even came to be in this complex universe is far beyond comprehension.

I've thought a lot about this:

What if I were to day some day. BUT I would still me floating around as a spirit, able to get to places within a blink.
And then I'd be able to see the reaction in my class once they know of it, my friends that hear about it for the first time, my colleges, and see their reaction. then poof! like nothing happened I'm alive and everybody forgot their reactions. But I'll then know who my real friends are and who aren't.
would be awesome.. sad and dark, but awesome to know/see/live.

This is where your going wrong. Life, death, longing and lost love isn't about mourning the fact that someone is gone, rather it's about celebrating the fact that those people were even here to begin with. Around 2 months ago, I lost my best friend. She was my world, I've never had a large group of friends and I have always found it hard to trust people, I shelter myself a lot and don't express my emotions well. But with her it was different. I could be natural, I could be me and she taught me really just enjoy what I have, instead of causing my own self propelled destruction.

Years upon years of friendship was gone. At first I did what you are doing now; I mourned. I mourned for the fact that someone who was such a large part of my life just wasn't around anymore. But I remembered back to all the times we had, to the things she's taught me, the random sugar filled adventures, the silly fights, the love filled hugs and it made me feel lucky. I was lucky to be so close to her, to share times with her and to be able to have someone who I could say I truly did love me for the person, teenager and friend that I am. I sat down and smiled, just thinking of all the great memories. Now I'm not upset about the less, rather I'm grateful for what I had.

Do you choose to succumb to the sadness of loss or celebrate the times of being in possession of something great? Your perspective on simple issues will ultimately determine whether your happy or sad. Don't try and come up with hair-brained theories just to try and prolong your life, just accept things for the way they are and draw happiness out of the pleasure life can bring.

Oh and btw, you don't have to be older to think this way. I'm not much older than you, I'm 20 (21 in 6 months) so I've hardly got many years on you. I'd rather think this way for my whole life and be happy, than think it when I'm 70 and waste my life in fear of the end. The needle with anesthetic analogy would fit perfectly here, a thumb up to whoever posted it earlier.

something to think about.
do you sit in your car (if your old enough to drive) and think about all the other people on the road and allow that to prevent you from driving? do you sit on srf and think about all the people who may flame and/or troll you and let that prevent you from posting? its just something thats going to happen and thinking about it wont help anything.

if i didnt have the conviction that all will be reconciled back to the creator, my thoughts on death would simply be to live as much as i can within moderation as i possibly could. go read ecclesiastes. i know you said no religious shit, but youd be surprised and how much solomon can offer in wisdom. he did have a great empire and lived one of the greatest lives ever. it is IMO the best book found within the bible. find a good translation, stay away from kjv. its a fairly short read and would give you something to do while laying there awake anyways.

Cept children don't stay up all night thinking about when they will die. You seem to be obsessed with the thought of dying oO But in a bad way, and thats gotta impact on your life.

Who says I'm obsessed with dying? Once in a while I'll give it a few thoughts, but otherwise I figure what will happen, will happen and there's nothing I can do about it. Perhaps you have me confused with someone else.

He was probably talking to @op

@Op
Even tho i am not old, just turned 17, i have thought of life and death a lot, and no science ever helped me about this matter, and i struggled over to think what i could do or what would happen when i'm gone, and really got no answer at all, just recently, (no need to flame me for this) i felt like god helped me, i got to say i never believed in god, and always thought i never would, but what happenned to me in the last month i was doing terrible, couldn't focus on anything at all, i even skipped some tests because i didn't even feel being at school, didn't feel like being anywhere, i remembered my dad told me when i asked him if he believed in god: "Even the greatest man will feel like noone is with you, like noone can help you, and at that moment is when people turn to god", so i went to a church(i think i didn't need to go but i didn't feel like being home either), and i "talked" to god, i wasn't begging nor praying anything, simply talking to god, i suddenly felt calm, like if someone just ripped my concerns, that feeling was the best i've ever felt before, even better than sex, now my mind is at peace, even tho i need to worry about several stuff, i think about them more relaxed, when i was walking out of the church my body was feeling so light too, like i've been cleansed.

I think that someone helped me there, and i still feel what i was feeling at that moment, i'm not afraid of dieing.

Edit: i was probably too repetitive but that's just because i couldn't find a way to explain this

when you die you either turn into a rabbit, go to some place filled with clouds in the sky or get turned into earthworm food.

actually fearing death can compell you to live more doing extreme things with the knowlage that your going to die at some point is a good motivation, i know i could die just stepping out the house and been involved in a car crash but shit happens live with it. when i die i expect nothing what so ever my body either gets burned or decomposses in the ground. you on the other hand from your first post seem like your looking for something to believe in your clearly not aethiest, agnostic maybe but you seem open to the reality there is a god or rather your looking for god. I cant bash you for that i personally think all relieve bar 1 or 2 have a negative effect on the world the whole we are right attitude can only go so far look at these suicide bombers doing it for their religion because they are right and christianity the worse religion of all how many crusades have they conducted in their past because they are 'right'. it grows old but hey its my oppinion and this isnt the thread to discuss it im just saying maybe you should seek some kind of spiritual guidance go to chruch or even look into other religions such as buddhism i know thats literally the only religion thats got me curious and they have strong views on death
