Actually depends on whats wrong. If it's just inflamed because of the poke, then yeah, you're ok as long as she didn't scratch your eye and get bacteria in the cut. If it's just inflamed, ice is ok.

If it's a staph infection, you actually want to use a hot compress lol, so I'd get it checked otherwise you're doing the exact opposite of what you should be doing.

It's most likely an infection of the conjunctiva. I really don't see any reason why someone would delay going to the doctor. I mean, what the hell do you think medical insurance is for? Personally, I'm the kind of person who likes to delay going to the doctor and have to be forced by my girlfriend or someone in the family to have a lump or something checked out. But if the infection doesn't get better (stays the same or worsens) in 1-2 days, I would highly suggest paying your physician a visit.

Don't listen to the people here who think "personal experience" is enough to diagnose anything. Things are not always what they seem to be; and there's no way of knowing what type of microorganism (if any) is causing the inflammation unless you go to a doctor for a culture sample test.

Your doctor's fact-based diagnosis is worth a lot more than some random know-it-all forum weeaboo's opinion.

A swelling can be caused by multiple things as well, especially in early stages.

Putting some ice on a swelling is defenitely not wrong, not at all.

But like I said before and like inky said, it's your eye, and it CAN be something worse.

Putting ice on it only relieves the symptoms - not the problem itself. Which means you're taking a risk.
