Well, that reply is just plain stupid and shows how little you actually know about reading. I didn't say you can slap out tourrettes retard, I said you could slap out ADD. Though there must certainly be ways of getting rid of tourrettes.
Side note @ grimjaw: You keep saying I'm wrong, but what's wrong with my explanation? It might not be how it is all the time or it might not be 100% correct, but at least it's an explanation, and at least it makes sense, I don't see you coming up with anything.
Anyways, I imagine a way to prevent tourrettes is to not put so much emphasis on words being bad. As a parent, you shouldn't encourage your kids to say **** and ***** and bitch and shit, but you don't have to be like "YOU CAN NEVER SAY THIS EVER OR I WILL GROUND YOU FOR A YEAR!!!!"
Then it won't be such a heavy thing on their mind and tourrettes may not form. It makes sense, at least to me.
@grimjaw again, my explanation makes sense because why do you think tourrettes people always say bad words? It's because they know it's bad and they're trying not to, but they just have to, I don't think any tourrettes people have to say stuff like "howdy".
Also, your text is kind of annoying, I agree with what dom said. It's not so much just the hurting of my eyes, but why would you take time out of your posting life to add a color and italics to all of your posts? Pointless imo.
Priam, stop trying to be whatever you're trying to be, and stop being so closed minded, you think you're the one who is open minded, but you're not, because you are exluding the possibility that it could be cured or faked or whatever, you just auto assume it's always real and incurable and all that jazz. Now I'm not saying it's faked often, but I'm sure it is a bit, and I'm sure it can be cured, or at least prevented.
It's not about me being open minded, i was merely sating the nature of the disease. I'm excluding the possibility of a cure, BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE. How hard can that be to understand. It's a syndrom that can't be cured, nor prevented. If a Tourette kid gets a word in his/her head, You can shout whatever you like as a parent, It's NOT gonna help. They can't control themselves. Which is the point of the entire disease.
Let's sum that up shall we.
1)
Can't be prevented, not by parents, and not by any superhero alive.2)
Can't be cured.3)
Difficult to be controlled. There are drugs that
lessen the symptoms, but won't take them away.
4) Tourette patients get noticed, and tested most of the times, so it's hard to fake. It's a neurological problem, which can be measured.
5) In some cases, it wont be words though, as Reise pointed out, It can be uncontrolled blinking as well. Tourette's has 'motor tics' and 'vocal tics', combined or seperated. Where motor represents uncontrolled body movement, and vocal several wordly obscenitie's.
Moving on. It's been said tourette is inflicted upon someone when exposed to deep (di)stress. However a lot of the people having the disease we're born with it. Medics are still unsure about how this happens, and again, there is
NO cure.
On a different note:Being whoever i'm trying to be? You mean like the person whom read up on the subject, and you didn't.. right? You should be happy i responded normally to your post this time, not calling you an idiot. Cause this was yet another post of yours that warranted such a reply.
Seriously, grounding a tourette patient for cursing on people, is like grounding a terminal patient because they're dying. It's rediculous.
Reise wrote:You sound like you would be open to the idea that people are saying their kids have tourette's in place of admitting there was a failure somewhere in their child's upbringing. I would agree with this but I doubt you actually are open to that idea.
ADHD is the same way. There are so many goddamn kids running around who are being shielded by the guise of a disease while the real fault is actually with the parents. Teach your damn kids to be polite and you won't have this problem. Medication is not your auto-pilot for making your kid behave. But even when most sane people would agree with this, Ritalin is still one of the most widely prescribed drugs to children in the US. Epidemic? Yeah, an epidemic of shitty parents.
I'm actually very open to that idea, i just won't make it look as common as you're doing right now. I fully believe there are people out there whom totally messed up there children, and have been hiding the abuse (Cause that's what is is eventually) under the blanket called 'a disease'. Especially with ADHD. Several friends of mine, whom don't have any of the symptoms, claim to have ADHD cause there parents told them so.
I just think that calling this girl a fraud, based on that idea is going a bit far. She has been severely testes, monitored, whatever, the documentary also involves explaining the disease, where it comes from, expert reviews, etc. She's for real.
