So what does everyone think of Jacob and his friend? Someone on a Lost board has probably already figured it out. If the answer is mystical I'd guess that it's a version of the two brothers in everlasting conflict, one good one evil, and they're gods. If it's scientific I have no damn clue.

I have a theory. I think that Jacob is some sort of reincarnation of Anubis and that other guy(the one who apparently took Locke's image) is some past enemy. Also, did you guys notice how the circle of ash was broken near the abandoned cabin? That might be what allowed the enemy guy to escape. On a side note, i think that Jacob (Anubis) has some sort of control/relationship with the smoke monster as seen on the hieroglyphs beneath the temple where it shows Anubis offering something to the monster.

No, the one who control the smoke monster is the one who took Locke's appearance, because the smoke said to Ben that he must listen to this Locke, and Locke is probably the one who said "i wanna kill you" in the past scene where Jacob was with his friend.
Time travel is quite confusing because what happened happened, it means that their plane crashed because what ppl tried to prevent in the past was fail. Notice also what Mile said, if they fail to detonate the bomb, it will cause the incident that they are trying to prevent.

No, it's the other way around. Miles' theory was that the EXPLOSION causes the need of the button. "What if this causes what we're trying to prevent". It makes sense, the future is teh future and the future happened.

Hmm could be, but don't forget ; we don't know what the explosion - which supposedly happened at the ending - will do Or did do.

My theory is that miles' theory can be right. They've been working on changing the future, but whatever they do already HAS been done in the future, so maybe this explosion did in deed occur (so they arent changing it but making it the future) and thats why in the future the hatch is there.
