higurashi is psycho whereas EL is ...well just gory
gory with a pretty good story.

Doesn't matter. Well, EF is tagged as action, drama, ecchi, horror and psychological on MAL. While Higurashi is drama, horror, mystery and psychological.
Still Higurashi is better in every aspect and far more enjoyable... for me.

I might have to look into Higurashi.

elfen lied and higurashi both have good story lines, idk what quite a few of u are talking about but higurashi's well exceeds elfen's. if your just watching it(higurashi) for only the first season and (for both i guess) only for the murder scenes then go enjoy, you would probably like elfen more anyways for its overall 18+ stuff and general simplicity...

Umineko has an amazing atmosphere. Still it lacks a lot compared to Higurashi (I hear the visual novel is awesome thought)

Lol indeed. Was a nice introduction to anime, it being the first series I watched. Sadly I lost interest in anime fast..... was it the lack of breasts now idk
've been recommended to watch Higurashi a few times and the genre of it seems interesting and up to my tastes. I fear of liking it and getting back to watching anime after all of the hate I expressed towards Japan.
