Yea, I was confused, too.
But numerous biographies (Wikipedia, for example) say she was born in Germany from an Indian father and Hungarian mother. IMDB says..

Her father is of Portuguese and Indian descent and her mother is Hungarian.

Not to mention, she was discovered in the German version of Maxim magazine.
She also has a talk show in Germany.
