I find it quite funny that people keep using "We" when talking about past victories, defeats or other situations. I know you're the citizen of that country but as talking about past history, we includes you as well, and you were not even born when WW2 happened.

Doesn't really strike me as funny. Anyways, you use "we" when talking about one's country, because it is "apart of who you are". If I were talking about a specific generation, other than my own, I would use "they". So "we" is used in generality, and other pronouns for more specific uses. Weird that this is new to you.
