It makes perfect sense. Now-a-days with tampons and female sports, the hymen is usually broken before 18 anyways regardless of sexual activity. Doesn't really mean much anymore except in older cultures where people care about that.

And the main reason ppl cared about that was because of the 9-month pregnancy. What if you marry a girl, and 7 months later she has a full-termed baby. It's probably not yours. Old cultures prized virginity mostly because it was a way to ensure that you know the baby that pops out of her is your own and not some other guys.
