Random Restarts

my computers been restarting randomly for the past couple days, any1 got any idea on how to fix it?

1) faulty ram
+there's memory tests on google.

2) overheating
+go to your bios, turn off the auto restart function

3) dead motherboard
+pray this isn't it. Unless you have a rather new pc, you will have to replace the CPU. If you're running AGP, you might need to get a new PCI-E GFX card, and you might need to upgrade to ddr2 memory (eg: if you have an old PC and the motherboard dies, you need to replace almost every part, or buy a new one)

Usually random restarts = hardware problem. You should find a trouble shooting guide on the internet. If that doesn't help, restore to a previous state/reformat your PC.

I don't understand how some people know so much about computers -_-

I know the monitor, the keyboard, and the mouse.

I've had my memory failed, i've had heating problems, and i've had my motherboard die...all in the past year. Fixing computers = learning.

I have 4 computers here, maintaining them is a full time job -.-

this is a new computer, so im sure its not a dead motherboard(or whatever), but i can barely load my computer without it restarting, much less click on anything
there are lucky times, so ill try it then(im not using my computer to type this)

You would be surprised. The slightest things can fry a board. For instance, if you have static built up on you, and you touch your case, even with the cover on, if it just happens to be the ideal conditions, you can fry your board.

So can USB devices, plugging in your speakers while they're turned on, power surges, etc. It can be anything; computers truly are sensitive.

Problems I've had with my PC:
-Fried my motherboard by sticking my microphone jack(the pink type) in to my usb port. It was dark, and I was in a rush to get it in as I had a ladder match.
-Computer seldom started/random reboots/freezes, because the PSU wasn't supplying enough juice to the parts. Went back and forth between compaq 5 times, before the 6th time I read up on it, found about 3 things that could be the problem and they replaced them and it worked.
-Gfx card, semi-fried itself

Still semi fried

As for the suggestion dom made about turning the auto restart off, I would suggest against that, as your computer restarts/turns off to save the parts so they don't fry.

What sort of PSU do you have, and are you sure its suplying enough power to your parts?

my pc just couple of mins ago restarted while i was playing counter-strike it reseted my score

That suggestion was a diagonistic test. You check to see if that's it, if it is then you can work on fixing it.

If it's restarting on cold boots, that's definately not the problem anyways.

i fixed it! w00t~! i am so fricken proud of myself!

i went to my computer, right clicked on properties, clicked on advanced and turned off "auto restart"

thx for every1 who replied, this can be locked now

Add bad PSU to the list. Restarts is the main indicator of that.

not always a good idea, its just gonna get hotter and hotter until youve totally screwed it up.
