There used to be a thread in here about anime, I am almost certain. But then, a lot of threads are missing. Anyhow I've been watching this show, which for those who don't know, is set in an MMO. I'm about halfway through it and it started out like it was going to be interesting but it's reeeeeeeally slow-paced. TV was never a great medium for overly wordy one-sided conversations about the meaning of life, and anime is even worse. Cowboy Bebop comments on things but not by talking at you relentlessly; by showing you in a way that makes the message more genuine and entertaining at the same time.
So that's my criticism of dot hack sign. Basically, it's a less inspired ghost in the shell, without the nudity or quality animation. Anyone care to weigh in? Maybe someone who's seen more than half of it?

It wasn't me. My voice, if broadcast to the world, would likely bring the messiah prematurely down from the heavens. And wouldn't that be embarrassing?
Oh and I just realized the original post pretty much applies to A Scanner Darkly as well, which is a movie and not anime, except that A Scanner Darkly is more entertaining and has some downright awesome scenes with Robert Downey, Jr. and Woody Harrelson.
@Cy: Um... I'm not... watching them on TV. And that's all I have to say about that. Except that I hope wherever it's being aired, you're seeing it subbed.

Dom hates anime. I like good anime.
I've finished the series now and it picks up after about halfway through. Not the greatest series ever, and the last episode was too rushed in my opinion, would have been paced better if stretched over two episodes, but all in all not bad. There are I believe 26 episodes in the season including one "recap" episode that you don't need to watch if you see the others, and not including three more episodes after the "end", one of which is a self-mockery that I've only seen the first 10 minutes of cause that's all that is on youtube.
I think this series would have been better if it didn't have the games to fill in gaps. It seems like the makers of the series got lazy in fully telling the story because if they dropped the ball, well it's covered in the games.
