This site for gamers is blowing up :o

So yeah... I've been beta-testing a new social network'ish platform for gamers called Player.me for a few months now. Really like it there.

They officially launched yesterday (out of beta), and the place has just been blowing up! 8Gaming shared the website on his Facebook page yesterday. It went crazy to say the least! Yesterday it had 38k users, only 12 hours later, it is nearly at 48k. At its peak, 200 users signed up every 10 minutes!

Thought some of you folks might be interested? I've been adding a few images from Silkroad to the Silkroad Online game-page on there. We could also create a group for all of us SRF / old-school Silkroad folks if anyone is interested?


Anyway, to celebrate the launch, they have created a competition where you can win a lot of nice prizes depending on how many users signup before the end of June. Okay, so it turns out that because of the recent activity boost on the site, I can't follow up with who you guys are (there are other people following me on there too (for some weird reason)).

Well, yeah, it takes a long time to get a social media running for sure.
But Player.me is doing great. Right now, the Android app is being beta tested, and it has brought the activity up a lot lately, as people can now constantly keep the conversation going - even when leaving their desktop.

There are some very interesting features coming soon that sadly can't be revealed just yet, but that will hopefully be ready before Christmas.

Until then, focus will be on going mobile. Hopefully, the Android app is soon our of beta and will then be able to be found on Google Play (right now it's downloaded via a direct link and through a beta-testing app).


Generally, the Player.me community is just super friendly. Another aspect I really like is that there are quite often give-aways, and the community welcomes indie developers very much. There'll be even more features available for game developers in the future too, allowing them to form their own communities on Player.me.

And generally, that's the direction the platform will go moving forward. That is, towards creating smaller communities around each game, while still - of course - having an open feed for everyone. But as activity grows, there'll be a need for splitting some discussions up into smaller communities too. Centered around each individual game. But, as you said, all of that takes thousands of lines of code, which in turn takes many many hours to code


If you've got any question, feel free to fire away. I've gotten more involved with Player.me since last, so I will most likely be able to answer most questions.

That's an extensive post! It's noticeable that you're getting more involved, hehe.

However, I still don't really know what I should do on that site. Where do I start? Is it like a small forum around any game? Also old games? Because those are usually of most interest to me.
