Yeah... I'm good.

Also, stop protecting lead in second half, and go for the jugular.

Oh look what I found on page 2 or 3. Prophetic.

That's depressing.

All sport attempts, in some way, to recreate the circumstances of ancient battle (except baseball, which is just weird). Whether its soccer, basketball, hockey or football, you have two opposing sides facing off against each other and trying to break through the opponent's defenses.

Think of the ancient greek battle lines, where phalanxes, 5 or 10 men deep, would crash into each other like two rams butting heads, and one side would attempt to flank the other and charge into their sides or back to slaughter them mercilessly.

Soccer, hockey and basketball are all similar in construct. They're basically the same game with slightly different iterations. There is no direct clash between forces, just carry the object into your opponent's goal.

Football (and Rugby/ARF), however, better captures the conditions of that ancient warfare. Except for the stoppage of play and substitution of players on offence and defense (which is a more modern construct), nothing compares to the brute force of the D-line hitting the O-line and the wide receivers attempting to flank the line and break free to wreak havoc. Or the devastation wrought by a Marshawn Lynch or Eddie Lacy hitting the heart of the defense and by sheer force of will pushing forward for advantage. All while the QB, as general, directs the men on the field to fight.

No. Basketball, Soccer and Hockey don't compare to football's recreation of the conditions of warfare. I have to agree with Qi, one of the most perceptive and insightful members of this forum, when he says that football is the sport of men. Everything else if for babies.

This is just pathetic. Here is the patriots send-off rally. "a few dozen fans" at a furniture store:

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

And here is the Seahawks send-off:

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

And I know the Packers would have had a turnout equal to the 'hawks. WTF, Boston...you hate your team?

Isn't there a huge rivalry between NE and pretty much every NY team over there?

That's a lot of fan bases to have all in one area, maybe that's something to do with it?

That's probably true but they've also got a huge population to draw from as well. I imagine there are more fans in the Boston metro area than Puget Sound. Wikipedia tells me total pop is 4.6M vs 3.6M.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was more a reflection of NE's amazing run over the last decade. Similar to Atlanta in the 90's with all the empty seats at the Braves playoff games. Its become ho-hum expected for many of the fans. That's a bummer.

Cause NFL is awesome.

Did you guys see that there is no record of what the Patriots balls PSI were before the game? For all anyone knows, when the ref checked them, they were already deflated possibly.

It is, the Super Bowl nowadays is for the rich and the media. It used to be a lot cheaper, one of my managers went to two of them before prices got stupid.

Carroll says it was his call but the OC says he was the one who made the call.

Apparently it's a common place thing for the Seahawks to do and Carroll didn't want to change up their process that had got them there.

Pretty epic game. I was one of the only people rooting for the Pats over the Seahawks in our cabin.

Mostly because we're too lazy to make a new one.
