Getting mugged

This morning at 4 AM, I was on my way to work which is around 20 min walk from home with no transportation available at that time it was my only option, and 5 minutes after getting out of my place there were those 2 guys on a motorcycle which I didn't give much attention to the street was pretty much empty except for us, and at the turn they approached me, I was listening to music minding my own business when I noticed one of them's hand reaching out for my bag, I was shocked and panicked they stopped and one of them stood in front of me, and in a less than a second I was running away and screaming, there were a couple of open stores but no one helped, I ran into a restaurant and when they asked what do I want to buy I said that I was about to get mugged and just need to sit there for a few minutes and I wil go, about five minutes later I left and took a taxi to work, funny thing is that I had nothing of worth inside it, it's just the danger feekubg

Not a fan of the running and screaming part but if that's your personality then so be it....Some self defense classes might help you in case you find yourself in a situation where you can't run.....or spend some time down at the shooting range and start thinking about packing a pistol...in your purse...lolol...jk...

the result with running and screaming was efficient, I ended up safe with nothing taken from me.
standing right there negotiating or fighting two grown adults who probably have weapons and more experienced with such situations, I don't see this ending up any better.
I don't think that imagining what you'd do is equal to what you'd actually do in such situations.

lol@ run and scream but it could've been the very thing that saved your life. Some people here like to act tough and think that they could overpower anyone that tries to mug them but in reality, there's usually more than one person during an event like that and in most cases, they either carry a gun or a knife. The best thing to do is whatever gets you out of immediate danger and if that means either running and screaming or giving up your possessions, then so be it. The sad part is that even if you stand your ground, fight and kill/injure the mugger, the law can still persecute you for murder if it was deemed that you used "excessive force" or at the very least, the mugger's family can take you to civil court for a lawsuit. Sadly, this is the country that we live in. I wish it was legal for us to just shoot and kill these scum but what we now call justice is nothing more than a convoluted and misguided tangle of technicalities and precedence references. What was meant to be a safeguard for false accusation is now being used to protect guilty criminals and fuck over the victims.

I don't live in a (very) bad neighborhood but it isn't exactly the safest either..then again, it's New York. My kid cousin got mugged by 4 grown men 2 blocks from where I live. He gave them his money but they still felt the need to punch him once and run away like the filthy fucks they are. A girl got stabbed 6 blocks away after she got mugged and raped. Guess what happens when they catch these assholes? Catch and release or they get special treatment in jail -- paid for by our tax money. Fuck people.

Anyway, how large of a city do you live in? Here in Denmark, I've rarely heard of anyone actually getting mugged. Mostly just happens in movies.

I was mugged when I was much younger, about 18 or so. I was on my way home from my girlfriends place at around midnight or so. I was listening to my MP3 player, minding my own business, when before I knew it a whole group of people were surrounding me. They took my MP3 player and I ran away like a little bitch. It's easy to say you'd act tough, but when you're outnumbered and you don't know what kind of weapons they have the fear instincts just kick in.

You don't have to run and scream like a girl and you don't have to incite some kind of brawl to prove anything...You could try just handing over your goodies....If you're life is in danger and running and screaming can help then sure...go nuts.....I guess for me I don't want to give these muggers the idea that I'm someone they can do this to whenever they feel like because they've gotten the impression I'm an easy mark....

I've been mugged before...a while back...three grown ass men in their late 20s with knives took lunch money from me and my 4 friends...we didn't run...we just handed over our paper and walked as we looked at them trying to not show any fear...we knew showing fear or any weakness would just give them reason to constantly harass us.......

Some of us myself included started carrying weapons to school for whenever we left school for the day....because for me if someone is going to corner me and put my life in danger I'm going homicidal...it's just how I am....despite this though I'd rather give a mugger what they want and later find ways to limit such encounters again...which is what we tried our best to do...
