Re: To My Fellow Americans
Bro come to Calgary, Alberta, we got oil for days
I know a bunch of peeps from high school working up north in the province (Fort McMurray) just racking it up on the field. Parents moved here for the oil too although they are engineers.
This. My dad was able to visit us quite often back home in Quebec before we finally just moved all in.

Re: To My Fellow Americans
My friend's brother studied power engineering or some shit in university and he moved to Alberta to work with those oil companies. He started off making 90$/hour straight out of university, and after a couple of other certificates, he's making 140$+/hour now. He's going to marry some woman he works with and she does the same shit as he does.
When he first started, housing was provided for him as well.
Dat combined income.

Fack me, that's a lot of money. o.O
Combined ~500k a year, I wouldn't know what to do after I payed off my multi million dollar house, yacht, 1,500 HP UGR Lamborghini, Bugatti, and my spaceship.
I'm still waiting to get into college for networking, decent pay, especially for a low-cost area like Nashville. After working 70 hours a week, 26/30 days a month, it made me realize how hard I'm going to push myself to get past everything.
Sure, I could retire early, but I'd retire with a broken body... which is why you retire early in the first place.

I'm working towards becoming a geologist, and heading off to the mines. My cousin did a trainee-ship with the Uni I'm looking at going to, and was earning like ~70k/yr at Uni.
The pay also just goes up, and up every year. You end up doing like 3 weeks on, 2 weeks off, or something along those lines. I don't think it's very labor intensive either (They hire people to labor for the geologists), but the lifestyle is pretty solitairy, and I'm not 100% sure what I'll find that like.

I know your pain.. lol
My previous job was at a private country club, but it was centered around greed so we were shorthanded every day.
<- line cook, banquet prep cook, expo, banquet server, busboy, dishwasher, maintenance man, networking dude, everything. :/
0 raises, 0 benefits, 0 help, needless to say I quit for a damn good reason.. <.<"
