Don't know the details behind her crime but at that impressionable age (11 years old) while being under the thumb of a conniving and abusive pimp she can't be completely in the wrong..can she?...... Maybe 15-20 years would be adequate for murder...not life.. This judge have a soft spot for pimps?..for abusers?...

Either way I don't know much about the law but I think law making should not be left up to a few people who call themselves law makers...We need a very wide body that includes the public to help make decisions on how severe laws should be... If random members of public are good enough to sit on a jury then random members of the public can vote on the severity of some of our laws...

I saw a documentary of a guy in Utah who got 25 years in prison for going into some other guy's house and punch him in the face over a girl....25 years for trespassing and throwing a punch..lolol jesus.. and the guy he punch was fine.... just a bruised pride....

I'm sure there's much more to this story than meets the eye. Judge's just don't go giving out life sentences for no apparent reason. I value their educated, experiences opinions over that of the every day man. I don't think giving control to the public will resolve cases like this, all it will do is allow the media (the main source of the every day mans facts) even more influence.

I'm a little iffy on what capacity you trust a judge over anyone else, but they are just as biased as anyone else. The only difference is they're more educated on the judicial system. Still there are countless judges throughout this country that make bad judgements(which cost innocent ppl their lives), and are racist, bigots, liars, cheats, etc. Some even make lawyers look good. Anyways, point is, I wouldn't trust a criminal law judge anymore than anyone else when it comes to sending my ass to the sammer or not.

If she really killed the person who was exploiting her sexually and was abusing her, then there is no way any judge on this planet can justify a life long sentence without parole. But judges aren't the real problem, it's that completely and utterly retarded jury trial. Letting normal biased people decide whether or not a person is guilty? It is by far the biggest flaw in modern western legal systems.

When it comes to these matters I believe in a society that exhibit a good deal of transparency in its processes and encourages the common person to become involved (to gain some understanding or awareness) and not leave everything up to the educated elite simply because they're more educated.... Being highly educated doesn't necessarily mean you are smart, wise, unbiased or that you know what is best for the populace...

Not saying we don't need educated people making informed, rational and unbiased decisions....because we do...I just think we need lots more of them of different persuasions keeping eyes on the rest of them who are in positions of influence...Some carefully select group decided on the severity upon which a person can be sentenced for murder giving this judge (who is susceptible to being biased) the free range to go all out...

Criminals in the US are seen as valued members of the community despite the fact that all they do is terrorize law-abiding tax payers and suck money out of their pockets via welfare, EBT, medicaid, and unemployment checks. Oh, and did I mention the ONLY REASON why I never signed up as an organ donor is because criminals are eligible to receive organ transplants that is paid-for by the people's tax money as long as they're in prison? As long as that law is there, there is no way I will ever sign up as a donor.

It's ridiculous that you have to worry about serving time in prison for defending yourself because you might be seen as using "excessive force" if you end up killing or crippling someone who tries to mug you on the street or rob you in your home. I still have yet to hear a compelling argument as to why it should be illegal to kill these people. It's not as if society benefits from having them around; in fact, it's actually quite the opposite.

They should just record the trial, edit out the stuff that the jury is supposed to magically forget and condense it to just presentation of evidence and witness/expert statements. Closing arguments too I guess but those are usually just a lawyer showing how big their nads are(figuratively). Put 20 registered voters in a room, show them the tape, ask them to give a verdict.

Would be interesting to see a justice system that uses a team of experienced individuals dedicating their time and effort to finding and establishing facts and not being on anyone’s side.... Might be better than having two lawyers trying to out argue each other with semantics, twists and "spin" where it seems a lot of emphasis is placed on winning a court case rather than finding justice...
