Frequent internet disconnects

Post by Castiel »

The problem is that for some reason ONLY THE INTERNET stops working. I'm still connected to the wireless network with perfectly fine signal strength. This happens off and on every 5-10minutes and makes doing anything on the internet a nightmare. To solve the problem, I quickly restart my wireless modem but obviously there had to be a better solution. Any suggestions on how i can resolve this problem?

First thing you should do is give your ISP a call. There could be a consistent fault with the service they are providing in your area. A more likely scenario though, which happened to me at my old house a fair bit, is that the line in which the internet is sent to your house is eroded and causing signal interference, hence why only the internet is cutting out and why the network still functions as normal.

Call up your ISP, tell them the case, they will do a line check and they should be able to tell you the results. Best of luck.

It doesn't sound like it, but whenever I used to get called on the home phone, my internet would cut out. Seeing as yours happens every 5-10 minutes, I doubt this is the problem.

I don't know how we fixed it - I think it just randomly fixed itself. What provider are you with? I think Optus has been having some troubles lately, but that might just be with the phones.

Who is your isp? Does it have a bandwitdh cap? Does your network throttle itself from area usage? Is your network secure?

Looking at your location I can't really comment on if it's your isp being shit like Comcast.
