Buying a new Laptop

Post by ltsune »

So yeah, my old HP laptop is close to completely broken now. Therefore I've been searching for a new one to replace it. It shouldn't be a "gaming" computer, as I have my desktop for that.

I've been looking at a Packard Bell laptop (Model TK81-SB-574). Here are the parts:
AMD Phenom II X4 N950 (2,1Ghz) Quad Core
4GB DDR3 Ram
750 GB Hard drive
1GB Dedicated ATI Radeon HD 6650
15,6 inch Diamond View Monitor.
Windows 7 - 64 bit

It costs what's like $1,000

Any recommendations?
Are some of the specs not as good as they sound? What do you think about Packard Bell laptops? etc.

If it doesn't have to be a gaming laptop get one without a graphics card. Saves big on battery life.

Don't get another HP. That is the best advice I can give you.

But without a graphic card I won't be able to play ANY game, will I? I mean sure, this isn't meant to be a gaming laptop, as I said, but it would still be nice to be able to play some low requirement games, if needed. Like... open Silkroad if I had to show a friend something, or open GTA San Andreas if we happen to have some hours free at school or something. So yeah, not for the primary gaming, but would still like to be able to actually open games. Is that possible without graphic card?

Yeah, well... I actually like my HP. I've had it for 4 years now, and it's still doing fine. I accidentally dropped my bag too hard though (my pc were in that bag), which harmed the pc.

But yeah, I won't buy a HP. Their cooling system simply sucks monkeyballs.

I recommend you to not buy Packardbell, cause their quality sucks ass..

if you want a good quality laptop go for Asus/Sony, Sony is a bit more expensive.

I was actually looking at a Asus laptop the other day at a shop. I was just a bit afraid that it might be crap as nobody I know owns an Asus, and I've never heard anything good nor bad about them.

But yeah, the specs were good, might consider it.
Do you have an Asus yourself?

I have an Asus and it worked perfectly. He sucks now but that's because it's 2.5 years old and been running almost 24/7 for a year+ xD Also sro worked pretty good with a shared graphics card, if you get a dedicated one you'll do fine.

If I can play SRO on a netbook you sure as hell could on a run of the mill laptop. It is also said GTA SA is also playable on a netbook.

Also when looking at laptops google the GPU it has to look at benchmarks.

It will run, but it is not recommendable to think that is a gaming laptop if you get what I mean. Then you should be fine.
