So I heard some rumors from Egypt...

Post by Goseki »

I know this is from random ppl on SRO spamming shit on globals, but I wonder does anyone know if this is true? They're saying the new president will disband the Camp David agreement and Israel needs to get ready for another war.

I figured I might get some answers here since some ppl might actually be from egypt. I haven't found much on the new leader. Anyone know anything?

Were you expecting 250,000 pissed off people to have a friendly revolution? unno how many people are involved in it now.

Anything is possible Goseki, but don't think Israel has to worry much.

I doubt the current president Mubarak will go to war with Israel. According to wiki,
Mubarak's government earned the "support of the West and a continuation of hefty annual aid from the United States" by maintaining policies of heavy handedness towards Islamic militants and peace with Israel.

The people who are behind this "revolution" on the other hand are anti-Mubarak, so it's possible they are Islamic militants and anti-Israel. There is the corruption issue of course, but I doubt you would have protesting of this level without organizers in the background. If these protesters had their way, it would definitely lead to instability in the middle east because their economy won't get any better even if they deposed mubarak and put someone else in. That's not the way to do things.

Yeah sure, most of them are Islamic militants, that's the reason why Moslems and Christians protect eachother during their praying time.
These people are normal people who just can't stand all the corruption in this fake democracy under emergency law anymore.

And there will always be instability after a revolution like the one in egypt right now, but nonetheless i personally would like to see El Baradei as a new president. I am not to informed about all the possible new candidates but he is simply the most likeable for me.

you go tell them that. tell them 30 years of oppression isn't enough and that for the sake of the Middle-East (which I don't know where the f*ck you got that from) they have to endure with their dictator even longer.

the only reason Mubarak has made peace with Israël is because the U.S. are paying him 2 billion dollars each year to do so.

Lol doubt it. Egypt is still very much a social, political and economic backwater (though admittedly, it is ahead of the rest of Africa). They lack the power and influence required to be a 'major player', let alone 'very major player'.

Pretty uncivilised for a civilisation over 5,000 years old.

Fixed.

@Topic Maker: Moubarak is only going somewhere in september, he clearly stated that he will not resign and not run for the upcoming elections..

The people behind this revolution were orginized before the action via social websites, and all the people who came to Maidan Al-Tahreer (Where the protest is moslty located) and threw bombs and ran people over where sent by Moubarak and the Presidental Security.

No one said that most of them were Islamic militants. I would not be surprised if there were some in the crowd though, not that this point is even relevant  .Egypt in general was never that nice to Christians to begin with. Ask any of the forum members who are christian egyptians and they can attest to the discrimination they have to face every day. They aren't fighting each other now is because they are unified by a common enemy, a corrupt government.

And there will always be instability after a revolution like the one in egypt right now, but nonetheless i personally would like to see El Baradei as a new president. I am not to informed about all the possible new candidates but he is simply the most likeable for me.

El Baradei would be a good person as president, but the corruption that permeates throughout Egypt's government might not be enough for one person. I guess it is a step forward.

Where I got what? That their economic troubles won't go away if they remove Mubarak? Right  No one said they should just take the reaming they are getting from their government. The random violence against unrelated people is not the right thing to do no matter how oppressed they are.

the only reason Mubarak has made peace with Israël is because the U.S. are paying him 2 billion dollars each year to do so.

Really? No way! I thought it was out of the kindness of his heart!
