It's like, the most important test American high school seniors take. It covers everything they've learnt over the past years and, with a good score on it, will help them get into some high college/university like Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Florida State(xD I know, rite?) easier because well, it proves they're damn smart.
Sorta like what we in the NL had in our last year of Elementary, deciding what level we should/could do in our High school.
Got that right the test can determine what you do in life and can put a stop to all of your dreams

lol dude, it can not hurt your life that much, unless your dream is getting into a specific college, then maybe it can. Other then college applications, SATs have no big use.
