Gaming & Marriage

Post by Guardia »

Hie my fellow gamers..

Tomorrow evening, I'll be marrying my lovely fiance. As nervous as I can be, one thing popped out of my head. How's gaming after marriage? Will u still be playing games normally? Will it change on how much u spend ur time gaming? Will u stop playing games? I just wanna know what do u guys think about ur gaming time / experience after marriage. This topic was made especially for married ppl in SRF. Those who havent married yet can also give ur opinions on how's ur gaming would be like after u get married. Especially with games like SRO where u need a lot of commitment.

As for me, luckily I've stop playing MMO games for almost 2 years. There's less desire to play games now. I might stop playing games after my marriage since I will have a new "game" to play later. LOL..

Anyway, good luck to me, hope everything will go as planned tomorrow. :)

lol. I don't think it would affect that much.
I mean, it's like having a job. You'll be busy, and have no time to play any game. Sometimes you can, sometimes not.

Where has more impact with this is when you have kids, imo.

Anyways, congratulations and good luck tomorrow. :)

I have no idea how my gaming time will be if I ever get married, but I doubt it will remain the same as now, anyways... congratulations and good luck.

Show SRF some pictures of the wedding when you're back home from the honeymoon.

Grats on the marriage! And well, I watch a few youtubers who make commentaries etc while they are married. I'm pretty sure they play quite alot to get good gameplays so it's really how down your soon to be wife (I think?) is with you gaming. Ofcourse those guys play xbox/ps3 and not MMO's where you literally have to put hundreds and hundreds of hours into it.

Personally I think it won't change that much if you are together with the guy/girl for several years already. Marriage doesn't change anything about that fact, unless maybe it means moving in together.

If you love her enough to watch her stupid movies for 2 hours, then she should atleast give you 2 hours a day of playing....

Congrats on your marriage mate

To be honest I think about the same thing quite often.

At the moment I'm single, but I've recently ended a relationship with my ex whom I've been with for like 3-4 years. She practically lived here, and we were extremely close and not just with ourselves, but with our family's as well. We met eachother when we were only like 11-12, and I'm 20 now, so we go wayyyy back. This is the main reason we broke up, basically we grew apart, our interests and our lives did. We are still friends to this day but that's a story on its own.

I've asked myself the same questions over and over though. I really enjoy gaming, and in 20 years from now I can say "I've been there since the beginning of gaming" which is a nice thing in my eyes.

But anyway, I've asked the same things, will I be gaming when we live together which was probably going to happen soon? Would she start hating me for it? Will I be addicted to an MMO?

It's a big thing IMO that is really underestimated.

There's this really big dutch/belgian IT website which has the website of the year title from 2009 (called Tweakers.net) and they have really big forums, news & headlines, all kinds of IT subjects, job and CV options, company solutions, a massive pricewatch page where you can track prices from ALL hardware and electronics in holland etc. It's a really mature environment. I see people who are at least 25 years old on there every day posting in the gaming section, and they always talk about their wives and girlfriends how they have to spend time with them, or how they have to finish a mission/quest later because of their wives. Sometimes they post the opposite, "she can wait" or something like that.

I think it will be hard for me personally to have a balanced life that includes gaming, a wife/girlfriend with our own place, and children. I don't see that happening. It might be because I have this thought in my mind where playing a game like WoW will be considered childish, or because it's just plain rediculous in the eyes of some women that you're sitting there playing a videogame. I can't see myself stopping, but it might be a hell of a lot less in the future. I don't know, hard to foresee. I do think that

I don't know, but it's a big thing and I really believe this is an underestimated subject in todays modern relationships. Obviously the amount of average and casual gamers grow each day. Not just PC's but consoles too.

I'm sorry for this huge wall of text and before I forget, big congrats to you and your (now?) misses. You guys have any set plans yet? Children? House? :D

Anyone else share the same interest? :D

You'll probably lose interest in games in the long run. I haven't played MMOs for a few months now and I rarely use my game consoles. There's nothing wrong with playing games after getting married as long as your relationship doesn't revolve around a game obsession.

By the time I get married I have a successful career in modeling/singing/acting so I don't really have the time for games anymore.
Btw since my wife will be Korean she'll be playin starcraft during her whole pregnancy.

But ehm.. Shouldn't you be like, having a blast on your bachelor party right now??

But I think it's all personal. Maybe your wife will find it cute to see you grinding all day and not give her love, but I think it'll be the same as now, except for threats that if you don't come to bed that instant she'll leave you for the mailman.

I think Casual Gaming would be cool (XBox 360), but I'd maybe avoid MMOs (except GW2  )

Heya Guardia. Congratulations on your marriage.:)
Gaming after you are married depends on what type of girl you marry. I currently play MW2 on xbox live with my son. SC2 with my bro. And Maplestory bossing with my wife. Soon Ill be joining Forsaken World. For me gaming became something to enjoy even more after marriage.

It all boils down to time management. I believe Non ego made a wonderful post once about this. Balance out the things you love and you can do pretty much whatever you like.

Anyways congrats once again, may the days ahead be great to you.

It wont be so bad so long as your wife has her own hobbies......Surely your life will change and you won't be able to do whatever you want for as long as you want without some kinda consequence.....

But if your wife understands your interests and hobbies (especially b4 she became your wife) and has her own interests and hobbies then things should be fine.....That's how it is with me and my girlfriend.....

basically this.

Gaming for most people in a marriage is just a little hobby. If your wife is the type of person who is overly needy and demands everytime moment of your time not spent doing something productive should be spent on her then you have a problem. But for the most part after a long day if you two feel like winding down she'll read a book and you'll shoot people on XBL. I played WoW with a couple of married couples and men who were married or had serious girlfriends. XBL is filled with married men, even fathers so it's not like marriage is the end of gaming. Unless you want it to be.

my dad could be classified as a gamer, usually plays every day for an hour or two, more on the weekends, usually plays FPS. He and my mom got divorced but it had nothing to do with gaming.

He is remarried now and my step mom is pretty chill about it, even watches him sometimes. Only time she gets frustrated is when me and my dad play nazi zombies and she calls us down for dinner and we uh... keep playing for a little bit until we die lol.
