Econmics question.

Post by Tasdik »

Alright, we all know that nothing is "free". Even if you get something for free, like a meal or something. Someone, somewhere, has to pay for it, right?

So, How might society pay for your "free" goods?

Goods = A tangible, or material, thing that people want and for which they will pay.

Something that has been paid does not need to be paid a second time if I am correct in what I think you are asking.

Is the question 'What price does society pay for your "free" goods?'

Taxes on that item. That is assuming the government doesn't waste that money.

Perhaps. But no, the question is how. Exactly has I phrased it.

But who pays for it originally?

Like think about it, say you get a free meal or something. Someone already had to pay for the food and labor that goes into your "free" meal. How did/do they pay for it?

How can you ask how they specifically paid for something when you are being too general to begin with?

Since you're speaking in Economics terms, You pay for free items by what you give up. You give up something to get it. Whether it be time, energy etc. You want a free soap bar? You give up your rights as you become a tester for it, taking any risk it may come with. You want to try this free sample of juice, you give up time and what you were doing in exchange. Sometimes you must give them your attention in a way so as you get a free product, you must first sit through like an hour of why you need to buy it. That's what it means in economics when they say nothing is free. To get a free something, you must give up something in exchange.

There are multiple ways. Big one is the government, but we all know they get there most of their money from a form taxation, which people pay. Private donations are more for charities and non-profit organizations. Advertisement can keep a lot of stuff free on the internet or a lot cheaper, so don't forget to watch annoying commercial, it keeps it free. There are more ways to keep things free, but these are the most common and known ways :D

Well let's say you release a new product. Ok, that's done. But how do you get people who buy your stuff? You'll need to advertise. This costs money. Now let's say you have quite a few customers, but you want to increase the size of the market you are selling to. A good idea would be giving free stuff,(if you buy something, or in some cases, just free). The customers you already have will come, but they will also make mouth-to-mouth advertisement, which is one of the biggest advertisement ways there are. They will be like 'Ooh go to xxx they give free burgers!' and your brand will get more popular. More popular brand= more customers = more power in the market.

For example; I ordered a free mousepad with an image on it from an internet site. However, I needed to post a message on my facebook wall I recieved a free mousepad.
