serious perspective: clearly the people building the bar are being total assholes, but at the same time they are prooving a point. if those that are building the mosque/rec. center are actully looking to encourage tollerance and build up a community than they probably wont exibit a bunch of intolerance and hatred. being muslim has its restrictions, but being an american does too. one wants the freedom to express their beliefs and demand respect from their fellow man. this being the case it needs to be reciprocated. one cant have their cake and eat it too, despite that being the purpose of cake.

basically, if they want tolerance and respect, than let them show it to a group of people they probably dont tolerate and have no respect for.

If you're going to say it's disrespectful because the building is "historic" then you might as well say the Twin Towers were disrespectful for knocking down whatever historic buildings were in its place before it was erected.
