its because we have a lot more people in the usa then canada and hockey is probably the 4th most watched sport in usa behind football, basketball, and baseball.

and NOT after soccer, nobody gives 2 shits about soccer.

MLS is shit and hardly watched, but the premier league/la liga/champions league is very popular in the US. im pretty sure the champions league final is more watched than w/e final hockey has

Yea because it's such a great accomplishment for a one game final to out view a best of seven game series. :palm:
Btw: maybe if you were talking about the World Cup final you might be correct, but not a lot of North Americans care too much about Champions League, as they do with the World Cup.

Women's speed skating is only entertaining to me because of their skin-tight, shiny body suits and the thunderthighs that bulge out of them.

i thought men speed skating was the most intense and most interesting. Watching the Olympic closing ceremony instead of doing school work ha. I love olympic opening/closing ceremony, the music they play and everything is so peaceful haha. I don't think anyone can top china crazy opening though...

lol dude its call a medal count, not GOLD MEDAL count. So your logic=fail logic. And who said America think gold = bronze? btw if you go to the official vacouver olympic website and look at the medal count they dont put the country with most gold at the top. I guess your calling canada stupid and has fail logic to..

im positive it doesn't.

http://www.andrewsstarspage.com/index.p ... n_ratings/

http://www.epltalk.com/american-tv-view ... llion/2182

2009 nhl final got a 3.1 rating champions league got a .8

Isnt the .8 rating for the 2008 CL final though (2009 cl was more watched, globally atleast), and the ratings only for ESPN. Either ways i get what ur saying, and i cant find any US-only viewer statistic for the 2009 final, so meh.

@unseen; the WC is every 4 years so it cant be compared w/ an anual event, but still, it shows people in the US still give 2 shits about soccer ;p

BTW, i think the olympics medals table should be point based, something like 3 points for gold/2 points for silver/1 point of bronze, or something like that, instead of making silver/bronze medals totally useless or making gold = bronze.

I say that they should give a point value to each of the medals. For example a gold is worth 3 points a silver is worth 2 and a bronze is worth 1. If that was the case USA would have 70 points Germany would have 62 and Canada would have 61.

I feel that this way would be much simpler and less controversial.

EDIT: Fail post the dude before me said this already :palm:

Canada broke a gold medal record, congrats.

America broke an overall medal record, congrats.

The Olympics turned out well for both of us, Canada did well hosting it. Congrats to all, hurray.

Pathetic...

Simple and easy to understand:

Gold medal worth (in points): 10

Silver medal worth : 5

Bronze medal worth : 2

30 bronze medals: 60points

14 gold medals: 140points

LOL at you cpinney, you a typical american... the more the better...

That imo is damned stupid, i'd rather win 14 gold then 30+++ bronze.

Canada won, and by far, the winter olypmics 2010, not just because I am a canadian, but logically and the most reasonably too. If USA would have gotten 14 gold and canada 30++ bronze then i would have said USA won!

Olympics have always been about how many golds have been won, not by how many medals...

The way your thinking right now is that america for example have 200+ atheletes, and ofcourse they are gonna win many medals in all sorts, because they have so many more atheletes, and then other countries which have less amounts of atheletes but win more gold (AS AN EXAMPLE) im not saying its true since canada doesnt have much less atheletes.. anyways, what im trying to say is that since a smaller country cant get as many medals as a bigger country, yet they manage to win more gold, therefor loose the olympics because they couldnt have more atheletes in each dicipline, thats ridicoulous...

imo canada won the olympics and they beat a record of the amounts of gold...

sry usa you can kick our asses in the summer games, but accept the defeat this time...

Still, on the official site, it ranks them by total medal count, you could go onto the medal page and rank them by whatever you want, but like Jstar said, the IOC ranks them from gold count, then silver count, then bronze count to determine the winner.

well done to all the countries that medeled. And I'm glad canada won that hockey game, losing at their own game would have been pathetic. The winning goal by crosby, you couldn't make a better storybook out of this.

I agree that a point system would be even fairer than the IOC system.

Technically silver and bronze do mean something if a country is tied in golds.

Don't get too cocky.

USA total gold count: 87
Canada total gold count: 65

For winter, 929, 58 for summer.

Just saying. But I did see a funny one, "USA Wins Total Medal Count, But All Your Gold Are Belong To Canada" during a google search.

Canada is big on winter sports and theres something called home turf advantage. Why am I not surprised they did really well this year?
