Weird computer problem

Post by Crowley »

So there's this problem with my sound on my computer. Sometimes when I play games it just turns off, if I exit the game and try to play a mp3 file it doesn't work until I restart my computer. Thing is it doesn't happen with all games. I don't play a lot of games, but it happens with COD5 and Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 however it doesn't happen with Fable, Crysis or COD4 (sound doesn't work on COD4 online play). All my drivers are updated and I have no idea what causes this problem. So if anyone knows that causes this or has a solution, please let me know. After all, can't kill zombies without sound :x

(By the way by saying the sound doesn't work I mean that around 5-10 minutes into the game it just stops working and doesn't work again till I restart)

Nope, just got normal speakers (Edifier). I don't think it has anything to do with the speakers though. And my computer is relatively new and this has been happening since the 1st day I got my computer.

Call the provider, it might be some bug with the speakers or the computer itself.

Ive had that with my old pc x___X it annoyed me like hell.
Luckely it needed to be replaced soon anyhow >.<
Did you check the stuff at 'Sound' where you can choose wich object plays the sound ? (Built in speakers / headset/ TV with HDMI etc) Maybe your pc's speakers arent used as standard?
Even though it would be odd that it only happens during gaming then x__X

For some reason I often used to have a sound bug as well...
did you try this (see screenshot)?
On my computer occasionally it just mutes itself automatically. you may need to unmute it and keep the window on. it tends automatically mute itself back again if you close it. I have no idea why though :(

Did you recently download and install any audio CODECS? Honestly if you go out and buy a cheap $40 sound card that should fix it.

i used to have the same problem with my computer but i updated the software and drivers and it works just fine now. it also allows me to modify a lot more of my sound options then windows itself.
