am i right to be upset?
am i right to be upset?
so ya was out with a friend and went to a school football game. after the game we went to a 7/11 and you know got something to drink and so on. but when we first walked in there was a stand with sunglasses. she walks over and starts looking at them and a few minutes after we walk to the back end of the store (where the slushy stuff is). she has like 5 of those sunglasses in her hands and tells me if i could get her one of those big cans of tea thats a dollar. when we walk out i hear the EXACT same sound of the sunglasses bashing together and i know she didn't pay for them because she gave me her money to get her drink (and all she had was $2 and i ended up paying some of my own money because it went over(she bought something else too)). and after 7/11 her and a few of her friends that i occasionally talk to put me in a awkward position because they were all idk how you say it but not up to any good. then i also hear the glasses clanking around in her pockets as we walk back to the school. should i talk to her about it and tell her i don't like that or what?
tl dr basically my friend stole some things (and i know she did) had to pay some of my money to get her something (she didn't even ask for some because it went over). then put me in a awkward position

i just put upset because well idk i kinda am she knows i don't like that shit

Re: am i right to be upset?
yes, of course you should be upset. You should also tell her to quit it.
If she walked out with that stuff and got caught you would be guilty as well due to association.

dunno how it works in other states but in PA if you're with a group of people and they perform a crime you can be charged with the same crime whether you actually did it or not, something like that. My biggest problem with it would've been if she had gotten caught then I would've also been in trouble, at least thats the way it works here.

Some of these issues people post have common sense answers, but guess its one of those things you have to figure out in life.

thats not mean. Your friend is committing a crime, one that could also get you in trouble. What is mean is that they don't care enough about you to keep you out of it. If any one of my friends pulled that on me i'd be like **** you get the hell away from me...im over 18 im not gonna get charged cause you're too cheap to buy some 7-11 sunglasses, you musta lost yo god damn mind...
something like that...

I didn't know that was just PA thought it was everywhere.
Wow shop lifting and concealment of a firearm, thats really smart.
That makes it more than theft thats piratically armed robbery.
Oh yes, and for future reference remember to just give your self up and to tell everything to the police for a plea deal it will do better for you than keeping quiet.
LOL god can't stop editing this. If someone was shot and killed you could be charged with murder as well.

If anybody is upset, it should be the 7/11 owners. Send them a Christmas card during the seasons.

Do some psychological shit to her.
Remember how mothers always tell their little boys if they play with themselves their things will turn green and fall off... Do the same thing to her say, if you take sunglasses your lady lumps will fall off...
You never know it might just work!

Re: am i right to be upset?
Well, being as you were there with him/her -- it's all a question of personal integrity. If she does get caught and you do nothing, she can easily take you down with her, and the fact of the matter is that you did nothing will be grounds for guilty by association. Having the integrity to talk to someone will be able to at least lessen the impact, if not get rid of it entirely, on you.
Now, if you have no idea where to turn to, if there is a person you can talk to about this issue with full 100% confidentiality, do so, they will be able to offer help while being bound by law not to disclose it (I am talking primarily about Chaplains, but I do not know if civilian chaplains would be bound by those laws, but I do know that military chaplains are bound by those laws -- how you get into contact with them is another story). What you do not want to do, is start talking about stuff to anyone before you have verified someones confidentiality; as that will jeopardize you and put you in situations you really do not want to be in.
Honestly though, your best bet would be to consult with a lawyer, see what they can do for you. If nothing else, it will at least take a lot of the burden off your chest (morally and legally), while keeping you out of trouble (if not, at least minimizing it by showing you have personal integrity to tell someone else who can then resolve the matter)
I don't know, maybe I'm looking too much into this; but I have just witnessed a friends General Court-Martial recently for a child-abuse case; and it was... sobering, to say the least, the outcome of it. For those familiar with court-martials, a General one is the most severe one and carries the maximum punishment if found guilty of the crime. Even though it seemed he was innocent of the crime by the evidence presented in court, he did not consult a lawyer early enough and made some statements that were later took as confessions to the crime when he was being interrogated (they called it interviewed) initially by the local police force. He now faces 2 years confinement and a dishonorable discharge, as well as forfeiture of all pay and allowances and a reduction to E-1 while serving his confinement terms. It's a very sad ending for him, and how he will fare in the future is all up to him... but still, even though your case of your friend stealing sunglasses is minimal compared to him being found guilty of child-abuse; you don't want to be in a situation like that: facing punishment for what your friend did, when you yourself are innocent.

Re: am i right to be upset?
Ofc you should be upset!
You really should talk to her. If really want to be her friend imo you should try to make her stop. If she refuses and keeps stealing stuff then you should speak to police. If you don't you you will be in trouble too.
But if I was in your situation I would probably tell the police straight away. If she is willing to steal things when you are with her she obviously doesn't care about you.

Re: am i right to be upset?
been there, but in the position of your friend. I was a shoplifter too. Everyday schoolday, (sometimes even before, during and after school) I went to the stores with only 50 cents in my walet or someting, got something cheap, and stole bags of peanuts, drinks, bags of crisp, sandwiches, croisants, anything. I was so far down that I even shoplifted international. On our trip to the Czech Republic I did it in Germany and Prague. But one time everything went wrong. I got caught stealing a pack of cigarettes at a cheap store where they were in the store. I got arrested, and changed my life, and now I'd rather starve then to steal again.

Hmm if it was me I don't think id care that much but Id say say just talk to your friend and ask her not to do it when you go out with her because it makes you feel uncomfortable, I'm sure she will listen after you say that.

Re: am i right to be upset?
For ****'s sake. That is seriously wrong what she doing. Just talk to her about it and ask her.. why she steal.

Re: am i right to be upset?
Man you guys are out of touch. Talk to her about it and she'll laugh it off or call you a prude and then laugh it off.
Talking to her isn't going to change her character unless she wants to change her character, you're not her mom, don't try to change her, either change friends or deal with it[in silence].

That's just wrong. #Talking# It's the best way to take it all out.SM-Count wrote: Talk to her about it and she'll laugh it off or call you a prude and then laugh it off.
