compy help real fast
This should be an easy one. Basically my friend went on a porn site and downloaded some shifty virus thing by accident/on purpose. I can't do a system restore cause the "next" button isn't working and i can't open any program to download anything to help fight the virus because the virus auto terminates all programs saying they are infect. Its one of those fake virus scan programs. Basically theres no way to get rid of the thing short of wiping the computer which im trying to do, i have an XP CD but im unsure where to go from here. When i put it in and hit either F1 or F2 i was prompted with installing XP again but im not sure if that will wipe the HD or just put XP on it some more. I don't think there any other way so im trying to wipe everything and just reinstall XP, help would be most appreciated.

I think you can define a full format, quick format or just a XP reinstall a few menu's later in the setup.

just put in the disc and reinstall xp, should be as easy as that. although there are ways to get rid of that virus. unplug from the internet. reboot in safemode go into the registery and remove it. however if you cant find out what parts of the registry to delete then i wouldnt do that but you really dont need to reformat. You can remove it using the above way and google

Copy that code and paste it in the box when you make a new character.

as a last resort you could try to run combofix in savemode. ComboFix is by far the most efficient spyware/virus remover IMO.
To boot into save just power on your pc and hammer F8

Im not sure what you can or can't do while in safe mode and frankly trying to delete this virus by going in the registry would be more trouble than its worth. I tried safemode+registry to fix the System Restore problem to no avail. TBH his computer full of crap he doesn't need and was running horribly before hand, this virus is more the straw that broke the camels back, a system wipe of some kind was long overdue.
Thanks for the page barotix but im still not sure i understand this partition thing. Basically its asking me to setup a partition and it shows me
C: Partition1 [NTFS] 114463 MB <15279 MB Free>
UnPartitioned space 8 MB
my options are Select and overwrite partition which i think is bad
Delete a partition and
Create a Partition
Now im not even sure what a partition is (they use it both a noun and a verb) but according to the link you gave me im supposed to delete the existing one then create a new one in the space where it was....Am i getting that right because i don't want to mess this up....

But seriously, download combofix (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofi ... e-combofix) and run it in safemode

deleting the partition will wipe the drive, then create a new partition and install XP on it, tell it to use all but those 8mb again. this is what i did at least. gl
