anyone into stocks?
visa is bigger than mastercard yet mastercard has a higher price than visa, wtf?
Re: anyone into stocks?
There is a board the company has that sets the price of their stock that's why. Also the price can fluctuate from high to low depending on the company.
So lets say company A & B open at $10 per share.
At closing time Company A ends up at $15 per share.
Company B ends up at $30 per share. But company B can drop rapidly the next day where A will probably stay more constant.

so when some stocks implode on themselves, people did so purposely?
Re: anyone into stocks?
Sort of, there is kinda more to it than that.
If everyone where to sell their money in a company at once.
Lets say company A is at $1,000 per share.
And lets say everyone made an average of 75,000 in that company over the years because the market was good.
But now its plummeting and everyone is selling so now the company has to pay everyone because their selling their stocks.
The money that the people gave to the company in the first place was so that the company could use it and grow. So it is not available all at once. Because lets say 1 million could be over here building and such.
So the company goes bankrupt because it can not pay everyone at once, because its spending a million to finish a building that has not yet made profit to make that money back.
Hopefully this answers your question. If there are more I'll try to answer those also.

mastercard started out at 50 bucks, nows its at $150s. it has been a year since visa became public, why isn't ppl pushing it up? is it because of bad timing? Like the economic downturn soon follow the incoporation

Re: anyone into stocks?
Ok, before this gets deeper and a bit more complex let me just say I may not be totally correct on all this.
I don't understand the question.
Lets take the DOW.
DOW <--- Stock Name( The DOW is comprised of the I want to say TOP 50 Companies over all.)
90.88 <--- Represents how much money it has made today. can be positive or negitive.
+1.23% <---- Represents how much it has increased today, so its up by +1.23% but can fall or continue to rise at any time.
7,486.58 <--- This represents how much you buy per share (I believe) So its $7,486.58 per one share. The sad thing is it used to be OVER 9,000!!!. So the companies with in this stock group have lost a lot of money.
Not all Stock names are companies clustered togeather. The other is the S&P. The S&P has the top 500 companies.
Lets take another stock like WMI (Waste Management Inc.) That is just waste management it's self not 500 companies clustered togeather.
