go into a hotel on the morning after valentines day and arrest every non-married couple. It is illegal to have meetings behind closed doors let alone pre-marital sex, charges can be $350 fine and upto 6 months in jail
lol, malaysian government is one wild cat
note* this program only applies to muslim couples, so if you are not into islam, you are cool.

Re: [NEWS] abstinence program in malaysia
This is not an abstinence program, according to the Islamic laws, Muslims can only have sexual intercourse after marriage, anything before that is against the law and you can be jailed for offending Islamic laws. Moreover, when you're born a Malay in Malaysia, you have to be a Muslim so it's not that hard to tell.

What happened to the separation of church and state?

I'm a Malaysian, and i'm a Muslim. Dont talk about Malaysian law if you dont know shlt. Muslims are not allowed to have sex before marriage. We're an Islamic country. We can identify ppl's religion from our ID card.

Malaysia, not United States.
Not even the U.S. government is completely separate from the church. Same-sex marriage, stem cell research, special treatment for religious figures, "In God We Trust" / "So Help Me God"...you name it, we have it.
The thing about countries like Malaysia is that this semi-theocratic form of government and culture places too much pressure on other people. I have an atheist-theist discussion group/forum and most of the atheists from Malaysia tell us that being a non-believer in that country is such a huge taboo. I don't think we have the right to tell them what to do with these people since it's their religion but what people have to watch out for is if they cross the line and force non-Muslims to follow Islam-based rules.

Because with abstinence programs you can pledge and get a stupid ring for it while not get jailed for having pre-maritial sex.

One could also argue that if Church and State were supposed to be truly separate, that the government should be able to do those things regardless because religion should have no say and that human morals and rational thought should be what actually determines whether it's right or wrong.
As for Malaysia, the religious community probably made it possible for them to do that. I don't see why it'd be possible to fine people otherwise.
