Absolutely true, today's highend PC's use a LOT of power. I have a decent setup, uses a 600W psu to run it, and I have a power hungry gpu 512MB (8800GT). Plus several other power hungry components.. Im not trying to save the world here as far as this computer goes, lol sry. But good point there. Several of the even higher end gpu's require 2 power connectors from the psu they use so much energy to run. But then again, they have "idle clocks" on them that throttle them down considerably when in 2d (desktop) mode.. So they may not be THAT bad.. who knows.
But again, who's is going to downgrade their pc in hopes of saving a few watts let alone the planet, everyone in the world would need to do it to make a difference, be it small. Don't think small things such as using a different search engine or more efficient gpu are what needs to be done atm, much more drastic measures are needed. We (America) might wanna consider doing something about our $4+ trillion debt we owe, most of it to China..(they buy up our debt from other countries) before there is some huge economic disaster to further "fack" up the world's economy.. Wait, why am I on about economics.. IDK, it has something to do with the end of the world I think.
Sorry for any grammatical errors..it's way too late to be on here..

Re: Don't use google
Actually theres another reason to not use google.
Google is by far the most popular search engine. The even have other products, language translators, mail services, word processors ( apparently ). Now imagine if this giant expanded into other fields. Once they tackle their own news broadcasts.. or even their own streaming site if they wanna take it to the extreme we will see a monopoly effect start to begin.
I know this is a little drastic but its possible. The problem if this happens? We see a media bias. We only get the news that google shows, we see only their opinions. Not enough variety in what we view and use drastically screws over the way we view the world.

Let's start a revolution when that happens.

I beat u I have a 9800GTX it uses more watts
But on a serious note, displaying black for the seconds it takes to search won't do anything. I doubt it even effects the monitor's power usage at all. Things like this are dumb lol. I wish I had a mobo with hybrid sli, that would save a lot of power and it's FTW

OK, so you guys are funny...
Didn't you guys see what Google did for Earth Hour?
They turned "the lights off" (aka, inverted the colors black/white) to support the event.
Then when you went and looked at the connecting page describing Earth Hour a little, there was a question similar, if not the same as..
"So why don't you always have the background black to save on energy?"
Google's response...
"There is no energy consumption difference between black and white, color or no. Pixels are on, so energy is consumed. No difference. The pixels don't just shut off when black, they just turn black, meaning same amount of energy is consumed. What we're doing is just to show support for the project."
Lulz... I really can't beleive none of you had even the simple common sense to realize this...
I lol'd when I saw Google that time thinking to myself, How the hell does the screen being black make a difference....
Lulz.
@Mr.Williger - I hope that happens. Google deserves to rule the media IMO.
Oh, and none of those quotes are exact. I don't even think you can find the pages anymore...¬¬

I don't. I would much rather a large variety of media, some with left wing and right wing biases and some with radical political theory perspectives. I like to hear multiple opinions and perspectives on the same matter, hence why i use forums.

Mhm, but if you look at Google's News Syndicate, you'll see it already is just as you say. If Google were to take over the media, nothing would change in terms of quality and perspective. Simply how it is offered would differ, which, in my opinion, would allow greater circulation of World Wide News than it is now. Target Walmart if y'ah wanna take down a conspiracy. Google's for the good, Microsoft for the fail.
Oh, and so it's like Mr T Williger!? Sick.

I built this setup few months before they released the 9X00 series, plays everything I can throw at it fine, I'll try my earth saving skills with my next setup, triple sli with whatever the most powerful gpu is. :] Maybe a dual-cpu mobo with 2 quad cores..yeah, that should do it. Oh, and 10+ hard drives for storage. Overkill ftw.

Re: Don't use google
Haha, yeah, I forgot about the psu, I'll probably just use two psu's. 1200w for the cpu's, 1200 for the gpus. I already have the watercooling covered.
Brb, I gotta go look up some stuff on google..
