I like how these people say it's EVERYBODY's fault the world is going shitty. When in reality, it's the people in charge of the businesses that pollute the planet that should be getting off their ass. They have the funds, and the ability to make drastic changes but nope, it's everybody else that has to turn around and dump time and money into this.

Recycling will not improve our lives.

We need to take money and invest in developing countries so they can skip a generation of technology. Were a small portion of the world. The pollution caused by our industrial revolution will be a joke compared to the impact of having countries like China, India, and Brazil, as well as the oil countries of Africa, the rest of South America, and South-East Asia pollute at the same level that we did.

Every unit of green energy produced creates 5 times more employment opportunities, that coupled with the low wages of developing countries means exporting jobs, indirectly investing in more efficient technology, makes business sense. This could save the world and kick start the economies of nations all around the globe.

Recycling should be a money incentive for businesses, not the savior of fauna and flora - see Germany.

oh, BTw,

Just because it's all humans fault that Earth got farked up, doesn't mean that we have to do anything about it, I mean...

Maybe the whole gap in the ozon layer has something good with it, I mean, think about how the world would be a better place!!

People could live on antartica!

Holland will be Drowned!! (it's about damn time)

More water in the world!=) the whole world will be a splash land!!

And people can save the penguin and the polar bears by putting them in the firdge!=)

We wouldn't be able to live on Antarctica because there is no ozone layer, so theres no protection from UV radiation -> in seconds you would get growing skin cancer and die in minutes lol

The goal should be to not let the ozone hole spread so we don't run out of safe space to live (without having to have a glass sphere above our heads - glass reflects uv radiation). Everything else like global warming we can deal with I guess

I do. I'm an environmental studies and business student. It's what I Farking do every day all day long. You should check the statistics and growth of dirty industries in the entire world, you need to look at the big picture. Your plastic container being recycled instead of thrown into a landfill will not save the world, thinking that is being ignorant of the big picture you seem to have seen.

What needs to be done is exactly what I wrote above, a change in our industrial process. Prevention is needed at this point, the non recycled containers sitting in a landfill is the least of our problems, if something isn't done about the way we manufacture products the damage caused to our planet will be irreversible. Right now the worst were getting is being able to play golf until february, emphasis on end-pipe solutions like recycling will lead to problems a million times worse.

Oh and speaking of landfills and my ignorance regarding their existence and growth: analyzing the waste management system of our region (including their recycling plants, landfills, etc.), as well as discussing with the head of their environmental management system, was a major part in my core course last term.

Und, wo liegt das Problem? Umweltschutz ist ein Thema, das 3/4 dieser Erde noch nicht begriffen hat. Umweltschutz =/= "treehugging"

P.S.: I like the way you look at the things, dom. I guess for some of them your point on recycling might have been a bit bad-worded so they misunderstood, but I guess your aim was to point out the real hierarchy of problems and that "cleaning up" cannot substitute finding alternate industrial processes that might lead to "less cleaning up", which I can agree on.

I recycle and take public transportation...

I don't really see the point of "save our earth"
1/ in a couple of million years the sun will expand and absorb mercury, venus, earth and mars; eventually the sun explodes...
2/ Before the sun explodes, we will already have technologie for terraforming (creating oxygen, atmosphere on other planets)
3/ Aliens invade and we die anyway; maybe we should pollute the earth so they die of pollution :twisted:
