how do you open an image and divide the image into its original layers assuming it has layers? or do I need the original creator program to extract the layers? if so, can a newer version of the original program work too (CS3 opens a CS2 file and extracts the CS2 layers)
and before you ask, I'm NOT trying to do something illegal and plagiarize images, just wanted to extract a clothing layer from a character image and add it to a different character in the same pose

Unless its animated, images are only 1 layer.
You'd need a psd or some other type of file to get it, other then that you'd need to do it yourself, just cut it out, I think theres a render guide around here, I think thats what you mean anyway.
