So what would the most recommended software be for doing this type of work? Just Photoshop? PS Elements maybe?

photoshop c3 works best for me =]/ if you dont want to buy you can just keep renewing the trial every 30 days. thats what im doing =P

oh lawl..

but yeah cs2/3 are the most useful ones out there...the rest are just for picture editing...and photoshop already does that pretty damn well

Using Photoshop CS2 atm, best iv'e seen so far :)

except the CS3 which i havn't bothered to get yet ^^

You should. Not because of new filters, or anything you cant do with cs2, but because cs3 is designed to cause less system load on your computer, especially when you amp the bit depth.

All are good if you know how yo work with it. Even *oh so wonderfull* photoshop wont help you to make awesome sig if you just cant do that (have no talent or ect.)
