well im part though doing the enterprise-j ship and i was finding bits hard so i decided to go back a step and make this using only the line tool because i need practis with it..yeh i found a few probs lol i dont think my fault more of the systems but il redo and fix but overall the basic shape has come out
you can see the probs im having in the first pik see the lathed version has a line going down the center
//edit fixxed the problem with the lathe...and would you belive iv done this in under an hour...yeh looks simple tbh it is simple just gota make sure all the coordinates are right on each vertex

For the line to create the lathe, don't close it with a line down the middle, just a path going from one end to the other is fine.

i know but for editing reasons i like the line there i use it as a refence when editing the actual line and it dont effect the object when lathed usually, by usually i mean if it isnt straight it will make it a little wrong

Turn the gloss up and play with the reflection, the handle needs to look metalish.

You always say that, or use that defence when someone suggests something...but i've never seen any of you works go any further than bland grey semi-detailed models =\

i get bored or i make something thats soo beyond my skill i need to do stuff like this to learn the skills needed to finish it...kinda why im doing this is because i wanna finish that enterprise-j so a few small moddels based on certain modifiers and such will help in the long run...plus this is easy and i was bored at the time...want me to add some texture now?
edit..buttons

you could try to do that light saber or enterprise in 1 day without getting bored and wanting to do something else?

Now reflection is too high, but I'm sure you know that. ^_^

yeh i know i only make that texture quick i could make a better version but that eats ram because its so reflective

You used a lot of segments with the lathe tool. Try fewer segments and better use of smoothing groups. Also, you should try to learn plane modeling, because it can give you detailed low poly models.
I made this with plane modeling before I quit:
It was ~250 polys I think.

that sword looks sweet, here is the finished shape of the saber only one detail left to add then texturing
