The Kiss of Haruhi Suzumya - my latest work

HEY guys heres my latest work,
I have a lot more on how I did it on my deviant art page. Since theres a lot of things I did, I'll just tell you the basics . I drew a sketch based on a manga strip I found of them kissing in black and white, then outlined the sketch with the pen tool in photoshop, colored it in, shaded it and detailed it by hand, and then added all the effects you see that make it appear as though its a screen shot from the series. This took me around 5 hours to make.
I tried to make it as vibrant as possible, please tell me if it jumps out at you ^_^ If it does then I did it well. <3

They're saying season 2 will begin sometime near Christmas, or after new years, but its all speculation. They have yet to announce a date, all I know is that they are working on it atm. <3 the series

Only criticisms:
1. The blinding background light, notice the same in your earlier picture.
2. No shadow on her arm although it's away from the light, but the blinding light could reflect back I guess...

The blinding light is done in the series just this way, so I thought it would give it an official look. My aim was to make it look as if it were a screenshot, which from what I'm seeing people say I did a pretty good job

Thanks guys.
sSecondly, the shadows on her arm, well since the part that would have a shadow is off screen, you don't see it. Notice the shadows on her knuckles, fingers, and thumb. There are multiple light sources in this picture, one from above - a combination of lights from the classroom and reflection, and the other from the window which causes that blinding light - which would happen if this were a photo (and again, incidentally it is what is done a lot in the series.)
I understand what your saying though, just wait for some more work of mine to come out - currently im still trying to find inspiration for my next piece, im not sure what I want to do.
Thanks everyone for the input ^_^ It's very much appreciated and I'm learning a lot still.

If i gave you a manga page, and asked you to refine/colour/etc. a specific character, could you?

Yeah, and I could also make it as large as you like since I can vector pieces now. Just tell me what you'd like me to do and I'll give it a shot, I haven't had time yet to do request art yet since my last pieces were so time intensive, so this seems like a good time for you to ask ^_^.

Sounds great, post which one you want up and I'll get cracking. This is a good chance to go beyond what I've done and cross into a cg shading cell shading hybrid - which seems to really look good (if you look at the drawing in this post I started to do that.)

Yeah, I've been posting this on several other forums dedicated to just this type of art, and their critiques throughly explained what was missing or needed to be changed to make it look better. All I did was incorporate bits and pieces of those critiques into my next piece, and the picture I've posted here is the compilation of around 4 people's critiques on my "Singing haruhi" piece.
To tell you the truth, I don't mean to come off as giving myself a pat on the back, I was impressed with the results after I finished. I honestly never believed I could accomplish something like this back when I first started drawing anime 10 years ago (on and off). All I can say is that this pen pad I bought is amazing, and I highly suggest it to any and all photoshop users who wish to step their work up a notch.
Just a fun fact about this pad, I found out that professional animators of series like Bleach, Naruto, and even Haruhi Suzumiya use this same brand... no wonder.

That's what a real vector is. Not opening photoshop and tracing with the pen tool. /highfive

Yep, I can vector in illustrator the same way I can pen in photoshop. Most of the time I prefer to use photoshop because I am more familiar and comfortable with it.

Holy crap, now thats going to be difficult, I've never done a whole manga strip before. But you know what? I love a good challenge.
With college already underway, I cant tell you when it will be done exactly, but Ill work on it after I finish the project I'm working on right now - I should be done and it should be posted on my DA within the next day or so ^^.
As far as the manga strip, that will most likely take a few days starting from when I begin work on it. I'll estimate a week just to be on the safe side, don't want to disappoint anyone ^^
