srfart - practice

Post by dom »

Please don't get mad if I used your work - I randomly picked pieces to see what it would look like simulated. If you don't permit me to do so, PM me a message and i'll remove it.

It was just practice, SRFART community. Designed for flash, the left side would be all the submitted artwork from SRFARTISTS, the collab you guys are working on would go in the centre. I also managed to fit a piece of my winamp player in the top.

Please note, i've only done a rough sketch of the top portion of the site. If I decide to practice more on this, it would be alot longer and with alot more content (downloadable ressources? fonts, etc.; featured artist; artist profiles; etc.)

just practicing the photoshop part. Won't go farther then an image, but it's designed to be animated in flash.

I've been doing html/xhtml/php/css/flash/swish for the past 6 years... and I still can't use frontpage or dreamweaver XD

Either way, if it were more then practice, I would code and animate it. But since it's just photoshop practice, there will be no need.

maybe idea to put slideshow functions in it

like the << previous | stop/play | next >> buttons you see a lot.

i think the standard one would already look very good..

edit: like this would look great in that site i think
Image

edit: and about dreamweaver....

i normally just put my flash website in dreamweaver as a *.swf file; like a
movie. works like a charm until now. only thing needs to be done then is to
adjust the page layout in dreamweaver but i just use a standard layout for
that and adjust some colors/sizes.

I added buttons like that on the collab part, and made it just various artworks. I didn't like it, deleted the folder and just stuck a "collab here" on it.

I need to take the time to make nice ones, but i'm tired now :(

hey reK.. you ever thought of makin a website? you are very creative and
i bet you can learn flash very quickly (if you cant yet already ;)) flash websites
are fun to work on and you can just paste em in dreamweaver in a easy layout
to put em online :)

flash from macromedia (adobe)

yes newgrounds has a lot of flash movies/games/whateverz

but mostly, the cool and moving websites are made in flash or have flash
files in em too. for example my classmate made this site http://www.peterbraakhuis.com
(yes the site is safe ;)) in flash. its a pretty easy to learn program and there
are a lot of tuts for it which i could link you to if you want. in basics, with flash
you create a movie with a timeline. to make buttons and different screens to
link to, you can stop at frames and link buttons to go to other frames on your
timeline. so basically, you have a movie, but you dont play it from beginning
to end but you link to the different frames.
if you go to websites and they have cool moving stuff or movies, try right
clicking on it. instead of being able to show you the source codes of the
site (like when you make it in dreamweaver completely), you will only see
stuff like "about macromedia flashplayer..." or something :)

Dreamweaver and front page are great if you have no skill and basically suck at life.
notepad is good ,notepad++ is great :P.
The cool thing is, that I actually know the guy who created FrontPage.
I know him pretty well. Lets just say, $$$$$$$$$.

dreamweaver isn't universal. There's alot of shortcuts and filler code that goes into it - rendering it not always xhtml and css compliant. Not to mention, it inflates file size. Markup languages aren't static, they're dynamic and compliancy requirements change all the time. Dreamweaver can't keep up with those changes and the code it writes will always be written for the time it was released. For instance, if you used a 2003 version today, the code wouldn't be up to today's standards and outdated.

Clients typically want the cutting edge. A real designer will code in notepad, because it's quicker and easier when you know what you're doing, and if you're designing for a client, you should know what you're doing.

I think I might turn this into my personal portfolio/digital domain. I'd like to work on it but my dual screens keep bugging out and deselecting photoshop...making me minimize it and maximize it each time I change tools. I'll post updates if I decide to make it a personal portfolio.

It's getting frustrating. Every other post is someone telling me how they would code it, or how they can code it, or something of the sort. I don't need help or advice to code it, i'm a freelance webdesigner. What I do need is help with the aesthetic, and functionality.

If there happens to be any animation or backend experts on the forum, maybe they can help me polish it after release - but right now I don't need help or advice with how to code it - especially when i'm more then qualified to do it.

I'm looking for c&c on the design, not tips on coding. Sorry, but everyone seems to be stepping beside the reason I put up this thread: I need help with the aesthetic part of it.
