need some help with sig

I never paid to much attention to sigs, but last night I couldn't sleep, so I had enough time to read almost everything in this forums. I got to the sig tut threads and I decided to try and make myself a nice sig (didn't seem very hard to do). So, I installed Photoshop and started brushing... I downloaded some brushes and fonts...

After about 100 tries I got an "acceptable sig" but I need some help with making a nice border, loading fonts, and of course as many hints & tips as possible( how do you guys make all those lights, glows and sparks? ).

P.S. It's my fist time using photoshop, so please be gentle :P

Thanks.

Learn to integrate text design before you try to make any sort of graphical composition. Also, try to make images that flow, and are coherant.

90% of this forums 'artists' couldn't design their way out of a paper bag when it comes to text, and half the images don't even make a cohesive whole.

Well, choose what idea or object you want your signature to revolve around. Make that your main focus of the signature. Choose text that sets apart from the object, but doesn't detract from the design.

That being ambiguous enough in definition, try to mess with tools that are given with the text as a learning experience. Dodge, Burn, Blur, Motion, Glow, and even Bevel are all your friends, but use them sparingly. I'm not going to preach text because I am still learning, but it looks better if your name or whatever you have on your signature mixes well with the design. Slapping a half-arsed 'Yournamehere' into the bottom left/right corner doesn't help the design.

My 2 cents.

Well this would be the base "thing". I know it's kinda simple and nothing special in it, but it's my first one, so please be gentle with comments. :P

I wanna add some light, some glowing things, maybe darken a bit the background. I need a cute border (but I have no idea how am I supposed to do that), and some1 please tell me how to load fonts ( I found some fonts that match a bit with the idea, but I don't know how to load 'em in photoshop).

Waiting some other suggestions.

P.S. I really don't like the background. Can some1 pls help me make it better? :D

Put all fonts into your 'C:\WINDOWS\FONTS' directory, and reload Photoshop.

The background looks fine, you don't want anything too fancy.

CTRL+A to select your entire image, and then go to EDIT -> Stroke and add a border.

The background needs some effects, better coloring, lighting and depth.

Play around with it till you are happy with it -- just crop the fairy (unless you have a PSD with the bg as seperate) -- and modify the background using filters. CTRL+Z whatever you don't like, and continue. Make it a learning experience. But in my honest opinion, that background is _fine_.

Wow calm down guy, you're the one who make sig after sig that looks the exact same, and if it gets a low rating you delete your post.

And you're the one who can't make a graphical sig.

Can't, or won't.

I'm sorry I don't settle for the crap you and rek make. Kycoo and Olen put both of you to shame on this issue.

PS - your current lame attempt at a signature is unsettling, you might want to rethink this new fabled designing flaw where you overuse sharpen and dodge tools.

EDIT: Sorry I forgot to mention how pathetic it is to paste quotes that help supplant your meager self-esteem in your signature. As far as I recall, I made a total of 4 signatures, 3 userbars, and 2 avatars, all but one were recieved in good graces, and you don't see my pasting crap to help enlarge my e-peen, because in real life, it's big enough.

I'm sorry, but your opinion about kyco and ol3n's sigs vs. mine does not hit. Do you know what? I'm rated higher than them on a pro gfx site. You aren't and will never be.

- I didn't use dodge tool - I used pen tool.

Man, your high rating somewhere in a pro gfx site is a piece of s**t here...this is not a pro gfx site...

And i mostly see only critic from you about other sigs so don't be surprised if one day ppl just ignore your opinions
