Ignore him =P GIMP is just another image manipulating program.

Hmm, let's see. Have u ever studied color theory? It sounds complicated, but it's not... it's just finding out which colors look good together. For example, the shade of yellow u used doesn't look good with the blue or black. Right now, ur sigs have no composition and they're overall too bland/messy. Instead of just playing with effects, think about what u want and go from there. Also, ur sig needs a perspective and a focal point. Sometimes tho, don't think too much about one point. Instead, focus on the whole ^^. Plus, check out tutorials and articles about sig making... There's a lot of good stuff at various sig sites. Ya, and there's a post in this forum with good photoshop tutorial sites. Just play around, use ur instincts, and have fun!

Note: these are just some general tips/guidelines I find helpful, and I am in no way or do I claim to be an expert of Photoshop.

Second day with PS, not bad. At least you don't have exceedingly large sigs with giant font sizes and the default yellow glow.

Shimohime pretty much summed up what I was going to say.. but I will say you have potential. Keep at it, follow some tuts, but make sure not to stay on tuts. Just remember no matter how bad people might think your sig is as long as you put your own creativity into it it's a hell of a lot better than what anybody can do while strictly following tutorials.

They're ugly, to be honest. They would be much better if you'd follow a tut.

Ok, I'll take this sig for example:

Image

1. The BG is plain, just brushing try adding more effects, or different brushes.
2. Depth, there is NO depth at ANY point in your sig
3. Color, the color just sucks imo. The color doesn't fit the text, neither does it fit the style.
4. Rendering, the render is just put in, and blended. No effects what so ever.
5. Contrast, there isn't any contrast.
6. Text, the font doesn't fit to the style, the glow of the font is yellow which is cursing the purple.
7. The weird effect on the left side, doesn't fit to grunge. Why would you add an abstract effect to a grunge sig.
8. No border.
9. No focal point.
10. No lighting.

Well, I have done my speaking. Overall it would be worth a 4/10.

but...but...but.. the sig has boobs... 9/10? ^^

Anyway, i think its nice, and the one in the "example" is nice too, but ill just copy-paste the points i can agree on. So that know-it-all above here wont be all alone in giving constructive critizism (spelling?)..

3. I like the color but the color doesn't fit the text, neither does it fit the style.

6. Text, the font doesn't fit to the style, the glow of the font is yellow which is cursing the purple.

And the stuff i dont agree with mr knowitall;

7. The weird effect on the left side, doesn't fit to grunge. Why would you add an abstract effect to a grunge sig.

Its not really a grunge sig imo. Its an abstract. Japanese signs, the thingy on the left.. Its nice. the grunge-ish BG just puts those things in the spotlight, as the BG is quite plain.

4. Rendering, the render is just put in, and blended. No effects what so ever.

Tons of effects on a render/gamerender (w/e) looks stupid. Its nice as is.

You don't get my point, why would you try to put in a chinese thingy with effects if you still suck at photoshop. Just get the basics before you try to go 1337. And your comment is the dumbest comment I've ever seen, I never sayd anything putting in tons of effects. Maybe just a bit blur? Or a nice overlay or anything, linear dodge or whatever. As spoken he's still a newb he probably doesn't even know effects, that's again one of the reasons why he should follow tutorials
