Made me go 'Wow'! I'd keep the border, it adds a comic style to it, fits the theme.

On second look, foreground effects are flat. Add some middle-ground effects or whateverrr.
Put some more variety on the hues of the left foreground to add more depth to the foreground.
Would easily be Low to Solid Moderate with proper depth and touchups on the sharpness of some edges.
