I took a photography class during school, and i really liked it. We got to use digital cameras but some kids had really high tec cameras. I was wondering whats a good camera thats less than 500 or so bucks. I really wanna go out and shot, then show some off here and to friends.

If by "high-tec" you mean SLRs,I doubt you'll find one for 500$

With that budget I'm guessing you can get a decent Point-n-Shoot.

There's a couple of cheap decent dSLRs from Sony around that price range.
This one was shot with a $450 Sony alpha dSLR.
Although dSLR shots are decent and it's really all about substance>gear. I find digital camera features to be pretty limited. I'm currently using a Canon EOS 50D and I have to say that I'm very happy with it, although the price range for them would punch a hole through your wallet. I would recommend saving up a little bit and getting a Canon Rebel. It's worth the investment - for an extra $200~$300.

Nikon D3000
$458:
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D3000-Digit ... 156&sr=8-1 If you are willing to spend a little more I suggest the D5000.
$652:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00267 ... d_i=507846On a side note, there will inevitably be the 'Canon Guy' (maybe inky?) that will start bashing Nikon. To put an end the the argument before it starts: Nikon's and Canon's have been locked in a unending battle for years now. They have many similar features as well as their own strengths and weaknesses.
If you find that it is hard to side with one or the other: go ahead with a Alpha from Sony.
The Alpha A330
$433:

$650:

Lol DS. There's a Nikon Coolpix L110 in this house that's on its way back to the refund department.

You're going to be happy with that camera. I threw around the possibility of getting rid of my D60 and getting the 500D, but I figured that it would be kind of a waste of money seeing that I don't use my camera enough right now.
