Tablet and Program Question

I was thinking of getting a pen/tablet to start working on digital art - just as a hobby. However, I'm not sure which programs are best suited for the job or what kind of tablet/pen hardware would be compatible for each. I need a good program and a pen/tablet that I could use to do basic sketches and coloring in the computer - something that would allow me to do things like cross-hatching easily.

Although I would prefer a tablet/pen that would work with Photoshop CS3 (since that's the only one I have), I'm also open to more suggestions and I'm not even sure if CS3 really is suited for the task I want to do.

It would also be very helpful if it's not some $400 tablet - try to go cheap, but decent cheap. I found this one from BestBuy (link) although I'm not sure if it is the one I want/need.

I would prefer something that's compatible with CS3 and whatever other program I need.

Any suggestions?

Thanks :D

I recently bought Wacom Bamboo One. I guess it's the cheapest model of the bamboo series but it's good for me since I don't really use it that much. Also it works fine with CS3 or with any version of photoshop.

Yep although I kinda find it annoying that it works perfectly for Paint and ..well, everything else, but it's doing a really shit job for Photoshop CS3 / Elements 7.0. Whenever I'm in a Photoshop window, it barely follows the pen movement and it doesn't register when i make contact with the tablet. It just jumps around the screen...really laggy as ****. =S

That and the touch suddenly doesn't work. But when I used the installation CD tutorial, the touchpad started working again but suddenly stops after the tutorial. I tried to toggle it on and off but no luck.

I might have to reinstall it or make bestbuy replace it

Try oC (openCanvas). It's like a paint but 'advanced'.
