I really like the first one, but here's my take on it...

It looks like the black framing should be in front of the lighter part, like you're looking through some kind of doorway to the outside or something. Now, if that's the case, the black part should be crisp and the light part blurry. The black is blurred at the top though, by your light source, as is the text, and it's really throwing the depth off.

Also, I think it would look hot if there was a little texture on the black part near the "opening" so to speak, so you could play up the lighting/shadows, etc.

I love them both
