He might not have done it this way, but i would;
get the wand tool
>> select the render
>> new layer
>> right click and stroke it 1px
>> move the layer to get the effect you want
>> duplicate the layer and repeat if you want
if you want to change the colour of the line you could go into blending options of the layer and change the colour overlay

You can also try using Shadow. It's pretty self explanatory once you start playing around with it. At least that's how I would've done it. With the thin purple lines at least. As for the pink, duplicate and clipmask?

I duplicated the render, added stroke and put the renders blend mode into like soft light or something(Don't remember excactly)

Putting in Soft Light will make the lines all have the same width? I'll try it. (Same for the other techniques, thx guys).
