Wait wait wait, back up...
Does anyone here actually know what 'Emo' means? I read one post where someone said it is an abbreviation for 'Emotional'. I would just like to point out that is totally and irrefutably wrong.
Emo is short for Emotive Hardcore. Emo music is actually good music because the band puts more emphasis on the feelings, whether happy, sad, angry, confused, and so forth. It's not just depressed.
Emo 'style' as it pertains to how people act and dress is a cess pool of idiots looking for a release during pre-pubescence (see: Geedunk).
Please, please, please do not mix up Emo MUSIC and Emo SCENE, thanks.

+1
its a trend, a hype.
Exactly .. can't believe someone called an emo band punk... Anything that goes mainstream is NOT punk. Real punk bands are underground, only known if you in that certain scene.
Only thing I listen to is 1970's early 80's BRITISH PUB PUNK, the real shit not the fake crap like what Avril thinks she is, what MCR think they are etc etc.

Trust me there is nothing hard core about emo. And EMOTIVE is derived from emotional, too.
Also it's one of the A perfect circle records which is good unlike the emo/scene music.
It'll end up dying soon anyhow.
The ramones are punk MCR is far from it. You should try listening to them and notice the difference.

ROFLCOPTER!
Btw Rek, Emo bands are what started the "emo scene" so How can you not put those 2 together? As you seem not to be to educated about music as you said EMO WAS PUNK, then when you got corrected you said you had to "look it up" means you have no right to even talk about emo music and the latter. You do not know what it really is. All you know is what you read up on. You havent been "in the emo music/scene" I have and I can tell you, both the scene and the music go hand in hand, and they are a bunch of whiny little kids

No, I never said you cant listen to said music, but since you know nothing about it obviously you have revoked yourself the right to "debate as if you know wtf you are talking about" right.

wiki wrote:The term emo originated in the 1980s to describe a genre of music stemming from the hardcore punk music scene in Washington, D.C. Early bands labeled emo (or sometimes emocore) in this scene included Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Fugazi.[1][2][3] The term emo as a music genre has become broader and broader with time, and now is loosely understood to mean "rock music with emotionally-based lyrics or effect," which could be used to describe a broadly and poorly defined group of nearly every popular (or unpopular) rock band. The term is so loosely defined because its definition is still the subject of debate.[4][1][2] Emo now often refers to a person's fashion, personality, or both, as well as the music genre.

Don't get me wrong, I like some emo bands. However, the dressing up like girls and looking like pussies is pretty dumb.
