Backgrounds

I need help with making some of my backgrounds for sigs. The previous ones i have attempted have been lame and plain/bland.
Help please!

keep making new layers and layers and layes and set them to different opacities and overlays, some ppl use like 20-30 layers till they get a decent background

i'm new to this, but thats how i try to do it aswell

This is an acceptable method for your current skill level as you are still experimenting and learning how layer styles interact and what the different tools can do for you. Just dont get too comfortable with it if you plan on breaking out of novice graphic work into something more accomplished.

As Ive said I will be posting an exhaustive reference for first time users very soon, it's what I used to learn the program. (just the program, no art theory which is just as important, Ill see what I can do about that after I secure the other 1,000,000 things Im trying to juggle :D )

in making bg's there are many ways but there are some tuts too such as the usage of grunge brushes which you can dl. you may also smudge if you want but it will take some time to get a descent bg.
